How frequent are your reactions?

How long have you or your children gone without a reaction and still tested to be highly allergic? Kate has gone for six years so I guess we have just been lucky. Joseph, my six year old, has never had a reaction of any kind. He did test to be allergic. Are the blood tests truly accurate? I know I am grasping at straws here, but I just wondered. Thanks.

Hi,
I think how long your child hasn't had a reaction depends on how many things they are allergic to, not on how dilegent you are as a parent. I really believe it's more easy for me since my son is only allergic to peanut, that is why he hasn't had a reaction since his only one for 2 years.
My son has only been scratch tested twice and never has had a blood test, however I would like for that to be done on his next visit to the allergist at the end of the month.

My son has a reaction from mild to severe at least once a month. I have never had him tested for any food allergy. I have not figured out what the benefit of all these tests are. Could someone out there let me know? Thanks.

The benefits of these tests far outweigh the "not knowing". Each reaction can get worse with each exposure. One day the reaction may be swollen eyes, the next day a full life threatening reaction may occur. If you have an idea based on testing you can begin eliminating potentially dangerous foods.
You may find you can stop alot of these reactions for your child.
Take care!

I don't know if this has anything to do with us not having reactions, but both children take a Claritin everyday. Also, Kate sometimes takes Atarax. (She had exema and has flare ups from time to time) Her exema has never really been a problem though. I would have my child tested to see if any other allergies might surface. Good Luck!

MY DAUGHTER WAS DIAGNOSED 2 YEARS AGO WITH A PEANUT ALLERGY AND HAS NEVER HAD A REACTION SINCE. ALTHOUGH HER REACTION WAS WHAT SOME WOULD CALL SLIGHT WE HAVE AVOIDED PEANUTS AND ANY FOOD MANUFACTURED ON A PEANUT LINE LIKE THE PLAGUE. LAST MONTH WE HAD HER RE-TESTED BECAUSE WE HEARD 20% OF CHILDREN OUTGROW THIS ALLERGY.(SHE TESTED POSITIVE TO THE SKIN TEST AGAIN)THE DOCTOR SAID THERE WAS STILL A CHANCE THAT SHE COULD HAVE OUTGROWN IT SO NEXT MONTH WE GO BACK TO THE HOSPITAL TO DO A "FOOD CHALLENGE". THIS IS WHERE THEY WILL FEED HER PEANUT BUTTER OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY. HOPEFULLY FOR HER SHE HAS OUTGROWN IT. HAS ANYONE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?
