Whoa!!!!!!
I have been out of town and was surprised to see my "hot dog" thread very active.
Please, everyone take a deep breath - - we are all entitled to our different opinions and remember that food choices tend to generate very strongly held beliefs, particularly when it involves our kids.
Please put this issue in perspective by reading my first post. I'll elaborate: My child was invited to a birthday party where the hostess was kind enough to call and ask about safe foods. She readily agreed to change the frosting and pinata ingredients to be safe. She also had planned to serve hot dogs; I said great, let me check it out and I'll supply them. I don't serve hot dogs but I certainly wasn't going to tell my child (age 10) who already feels restricted, that he couldn't have the hot dog on one occasion.
I am grateful to all of you who made suggestions for hot dogs and helped make the birthday party "normal" for my child. To me, this is what this forum is all about.

Helen, I apologize again for posting off-topic in your thread.
I also understand completely what you were saying about the ? re hot dogs. You had wanted to check re the safety of them for your child at a birthday party. Where else would you check, but here? It makes complete sense! Also, I'm glad to hear that he had a good, safe, time! Best wishes!

I have not had any issues with most hot dogs.
We used Oscar Meyer Turkey Dogs, Nitrate/Nitrite Free. They are expensive, but they have had $1.00 off 2 pack coupons in the sunday paper lately. If you match them up with a sale it works out ok. Kraft owns Oscar Meyer and per my call in June they say they will list "May contains" if made on shared lines.
