hey philips mom,
lighten up why don't you! you are in serious need of some humor pills!!!
and please, chill out on the seriously underweight child justification, we are all in the same boat here, but for some reason you seem to believe you have the heaviest oar to row!
basically my point was just that, hot dogs are yucky anyway so why knock yourselves out to find some that are safe! my kids at least don't seem to miss them at all, of course they aren't around them much, our friends and relatives don't eat them much and they aren't served in places where we eat when we eat out of the home.
again, take a chill pill will!

With regard to the Amy's hot dogs - we get ours at Whole Foods or People's Market (we're in Illinois). My mother actually called the company for me, so I don't recall if there were dedicated lines for the hot dogs. I do know that they were exceptionally conscious of allergy and cross-contamination issues, and I felt comfortable enough with their practices to use their products (with careful label reading).
As for the "junk" in many hot dogs, cold cuts, etc., - it's true . . . it's bad stuff. That's why I chose to explore Amy's products - as far as I know they are uncured, nitrate-free. My PA is son is such a picky eater, though, that if I can find something he likes, especially with some protein, I may make exceptions on some of the additives or preservatives in some products. It's hard to find that balance between safety (first priority), healthy foods, and just getting enough to eat.
If anybody is interested in other PA-safe "natural" foods, search my postings for some products I've found in the past (Indian Harvest grain mixes, Robert's American Veggie puffs, ect.)
I'd love to find out about others that anybody has discovered. I currently have an email out to a company called Kashi - which makes healthy cereals.

Thanks Yonit - Whole Foods is Fresh Fields here in NY. I will request that my store get them for me. I too try as much as possible to avoid the additives, nitrites, etc. which is why I like Amy's (and Robert's American) stuff so much. BTW, have you tried Amy's bean enchiladas? Divine, my dear. I developed a serious addiction a couple of years ago and needed to attend a 12 step program to get it under control!
Dear mom2mom,
Would love to talk to you via email but like some other outspoken board posters, you haven't put an email address in your profile. Why don't you contact me and we can chat!
Helen, I'm sorry to place something "off topic" in your thread. However. I have not "bothered" apparently to list my e-mail address in my profile.
Well, there is a story to go with that that I consider extremely positive for this site. When I first became a regular poster, I was receiving quite a few e-mails per day from people that were writing to me directly off-the-board and although I appreciated the contact with other PA parents/persons, I also felt that what they were sharing with me, they should be sharing with the whole board.
They had a wealth of information that was very important to the very survival, if you will, of this board. Then, as some people would not know, I did lose my computer for a space of time and people that did have an e-mail for me were unable to reach me and became quite concerned. When I re-connected, I made sure that I got an e-mail that was accessible from any computer lest I lose my computer again, but I also decided not to post my e-mail address in my profile simply for the reasons I stated above.
I wanted people sharing their information here first, not coming to me off-the-board immediately because they didn't want to post. Now, there are a lot of people that I am in touch with off-the-board and I have heard from several within the last couple of days, but this contact has always been established after we have been posting on the board.
I simply feel, and I don't know why some people require an explanation for every little step someone makes (although they may be legally required to make some for one step they made), but I felt the whole board deserved to hear what these other parents were going through, dealing with, etc. There were some very rich and interesting stories that I felt was selfish for only me to hear. I also suggested to each person that did e-mail personally that I really felt they should post this very important information on the PA site.
Since when have we, as people who are posting on this site, become required to explain to certain people in particular how we conduct our lives. I removed my e-mail in good of the board and if you really want it, you can find it in some of my posts anyway. (I also noted at least 7 people posting in this thread who do not have their e-mail addresses listed and they must have their reasons, but it is their reason, nothing that needs to be explained - it is a personal decision, period). What is the big deal? Is Mom2Mom and countless other people who have not listed an e-mail now required to post one or give their reason for not doing so - we're outspoken and can't be bothered. C'mon! Best wishes!

Thank you Cindy for clarifying mom2mom's email situation - I'm sure she's happy for your responding for her since she hasn't responded to me.
Since we are getting way off thread - let's get back on it. The question was hotdogs. The lady wants yummy, safe hotdogs. mom2mom jumps in with how can we possibly eat these things they're awful. I reply with what I thought was a positive reason for feeding them to my family and I get jumped on again! Not only that but mom2mom takes a very personal attack on me. I don't feel my kids are the only ones on this board who are underweight - look at the threads specifically asking about growth development - I don't think I was the only one who posted there. Let's not completely ruin this thread. I wanted mom2mom's email address so that I could ask her where she was coming from in her post without making it a big board to do with everyone, including you, jumping in with their opinions. Guess you're not going to let that happen.
Well everybody I am guilty of taking the best and quickest way out sometimes and a good old hot dog wins in this house. I have given mine the sobrett hot dogs and they love them. Just the 2 year old I need to be careful with because of choking. They are the greatest thing my kids think. Every Saturday we have Hot dog and Beans. I used to have them and I am fine. I just wish my kids would realize that Bologna is the same thing. They will not try it and it is also cheap. My Brother is a chef and he went to a nutritional class so I hear all about the hot dog thing. Guess what I saw him taking the easy way out more than once. I know we have had many kind of hot dogs however Oscar myer but once they have Sobrett they want no other. Have you seen the green ketchup! We bought some and the kids will not even try it because of the look. A little off subject. Have a good day and take care. Claire
Mom2Mom, I certainly didn't mean to speak on your behalf re your not listing your e-mail, but I was giving my reason. I'm simply not clear why this is questioned of certain people only and not say the 7 other people in this thread alone that don't have their e-mails listed. At any rate, I didn't mean to speak for you. Helen, again, I'm sorry for posting off-topic in your thread, but I could not stand the innuendo re e-mail addresses any longer.
As far as your thread, I felt, for some reason it was an American thing again. We don't seem to have that much trouble finding "safe" hot dogs in Canada, I think because, despite our manufacturers not legally being required to, they simply seem to label products better. I always buy Maple Leaf All Beef Hot Dogs. Best wishes!

no problem cindy!
philipmom: you are already gone i guess but honestly, this site is not the center of my life and right now in the u.s. i am totally captivated by the election stuff!
my post was not an attack on hot dog eaters, i have no desir to give strangers my email, phone or snail mail address, too many wasckos out there.
i think i better not say anymore to you as i stated in two posts what i meant, sorry that you are taking this as an attack, it wasnt meant to be but hey, feel free to open a whole new discussion on it, i just dont have all that much free time to respond lately.
sorry for the typos, BIG nursing baby nestedled in my right arm....
Mom2Mom, be careful! You may end up getting a whole thread named for you! I've actually noticed that the posting has gone down significantly this week and I suspected it had to do with the election. I hope the same thing doesn't happen here in a couple of weeks, because, despite our 4 or 5 party leaders during a debate last night, we're down to a 2 party race too! Best wishes!
