Hi everyone!

I have a PA, MA and EA child!!!!

So far, we have done really well with her. I have become an accomplished vegan baker and a terrific ingredient reader

My DD is starting preschool this year and it's a whole new ballgame for us. I'm very unsure about it all and glad to have found you all. Without this site, I would probably have to home school my child!!!

Hopefully with all of your help, I can figure out how to send my child to school without have a coronary over worrying about her!!!

Hello,
You must be very creative! I don't have a problem with milk, but would love a good recipe for egg-free baking. (Have to avoid apples, too; can't use applesauce.)
And see the "Schools" section for lots of help from the parents.
Welcome,
Daisy

I think you need to find a different school. Maybe that is too much. OK I would kind of pretend to work with them. I would say "the student cannot carry the epi? Well, then her teach needs to have it with her at all times. If she changes classes they must carry it." Or you could go over the head of the principal to the school board in and effort to push them into changing. If your understanding is true that school definitely needs a policy change. Is there a local Illinois support group that might be more help then this site?
Our kids definitely need their epi pens.

Try contacting your state's department of education for additional information. Also, there are a number of active support groups around Chicago and active food allergy bloggers there too, such as the Nut Free Mom Blog and Food Allergy Mama. I suspect they would have some helpful info.

I'm not sure if it is still there, but there was a huge Food Allergy resource kit with all of the laws spelled out that was free ONLY for schools in Illinois from FAAN! I got one for my son's daycare last year-it is great-and it sounds like your daughter's school needs some education asap!

Thank you for responding. After much discussion, the school nurse (thank God I worked with her in the OR many years earlier) had me sign a waiver that Alex can carry her Epipen with her.
Thank you for having such an informative site, I have spent alot!! of time on it recently. I am just trying to get up to speed on this whole thing.
