Hershey\'s Cocoa

I searched for the answer to this but all of the posts were quite old. Do you all still use this brand of cocoa for your baking? I am making my son's birthday cake on Saturday and would like to make it a chocolate one if possible. Thanks in advance for your help.

I still use Hershey's cocoa, but as I discussed this in some other thread, Hershey's is trying to improve their profitablity. I read an article which stated Hershey's was thinking about using a third-party supplier for their cocoa instead of making their own. Just something to think about in case it does happen in the future.

Thanks for your replies. I did use it and the cake turned out great. My son loved it and we made it through another birthday (and another year) without any peanut reactions.

I spoke to a Hershey's rep today (1-800-468-1714). She said that although they have excellent cleaning standards and take the allergy seriously (blah blah blah), the ONLY product which has dedicated peanut/nut-free lines is the plain, 1.55 oz. chocolate bar. All other products may share lines.

I know many people may still feel comfortable with some of their other products, but she was very clear about the dedicated lines issue. Why do some feel okay about other Hershey's products, such as the cocoa, sixlets, twizzlers, Jolly Ranchers, etc.?

In addition to the plain bars I only use the cocoa, strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup. The main reason I trust those is that as far as I know, there is no peanut or nut variety. Even though my dd had kisses and peppermint patties before we knew about the severity of the allergy and concerns about cross contamination, I still can't bring myself to give them to her now.
