My son has been fighting a virus (rash) & then today he woke from his nap with a caugh & a Swollen Penis!!!!

He was crying saying it HURT!!!

I gave him Benadryl & rushed to U/C
Of course there was no cough there!!!!

The Dr said it was 2 things
Virus --rash
Allergy --swollen penis & cough
(had to have gotten something hes allergic to???? perhaps Peanut Egg or bug)

He also has a red spot that looks like a bug bite behind the ear (about the size of a nickle, raised & red)

So is this something that just happend?
is it an allergic reaction?
or what?????

This happend twice before.
first time just after his circ. (9m) & second time when driving on a trip (around 18m)

I have no idea what has caused any of it!!!

Has anyone else ever experienced this with a little boy?????

ITs been 4 hours & it is still very swollen/puffy

Please help me make sense of ths
thanks

(I just can't haddle the stress)

I am sorry that I have no advice because I am very new to this allergy stuff but I just wanted to say that I will be thinking about you and hope everything is o.k.

OOOHHH! Hang in there! It is bad enough when you know what is causing some crazy reaction, and sooo much more stressful when you don't know what caused it. He must be so uncomfortable! I hope the doctor was empathetic and gave him something to help him feel better! Have you been to an allergist, or a pediatrician? If you haven't been to an allergist, it might be helpful. I have found that the pediatricians tend to have a different perspective on alleries than the allergists do. They tend to be a bit more laid back. The allergist may have experience with some different medications or suggestions of things to do that may help him be more comfortable than the pediatrician.

Thanks, I am going to call both his allergist & his Ped this morning.
I am just wondering because there are so many facter here if it could be a reaction to the virus, an accidental exposure or an injury????
I know he didn't eat anything different
McD's but had that a 1000 times before.
I know before his nap on the way home from my dr's he was wanting to go peepee & I had to ask him to hold it & hes still in a boster with 5point belt, perhaps it was just to tight down there????
Oh I hate this!!!!!

My son - now 5 - also was swelling in that area - around 3 years old. It was the car seat. We eventually figured it out and we could move the "crotch" buckle out a little bit. How muc does your son wiegh - could you move to the booster with the regular seat belt? He also had swollen problems after a "cold" virus. We let him play in a cool bath - and it seemed to help ease the pain. It only lasted about 2 days - at the end of the cold. ---- Not saying that it couldn't be some weird reaction. Good luck.

kkeene, I DO NOT want answers to these questions posted. They are for you to think about and discuss with your doctor if appropriate.
Is there discharge? (sign of infection)
Is he circ'd?
I recall my friend's son going through a lot of problems with infections, but I don't know all the symptoms he had. In his case he did eventually have to be circumsized (not pleasant at about 10 years old - poor guy).
******
As for virus or allergies causing this - I've never heard of that, but, there's lots I've never heard of. Hope you figure it out soon and that the little guy is feeling better.

Oh jami Thankyou for posting (others too)
When this happend when he was much younger I thought it was the belt in the carseat, too...
And actually he is 36 lbs & still wears the 5point harness which I noticed a few days ago it was getting tighter (because of the warmer coat) & he is fighting some kind of virus that has given him this rash (almost looks like hives on the face)...
I call the allergist & he was out but the nurse felt that it was more virus related then allergy related.
I am just so relieved to know that someone else can relate.

Ive never heard of an allergy causing that. Are they sure its not an infection?
It seems odd that one of the other times it happened it was right after his circ. Has he seen a urologist?

Have you tried to put cold compresses on it? Do you think he is having a erection with the swelling because of the examination and probably touching it and looking at it?
Last summer ds, 2, we were driving home from vacation. A 3 hr drive. We are in the car 5 minutes and he's pulling at his penis and screaming. I try to rearrange things. Eventually, he's screaming in pain and saying his tummy hurts. We pull over. I call Dr. No hospital for miles around. Get him out of the seat and his stomach is protruding and hard as a rock. We strip him down and I start examining him w/ dr. on the phone. I then, walk a few steps away, leave ds w/ dh, and talk more to dr. Ds starts to pee. Here's what happened. Because of the car seat and me trying to rearrange him, he got an erection. Can't pee w/ an erection and his bladder became engorged. When the erection went down, he peed and all was well.
Let us know when you get to the bottom of what's going on w/ your son.

No its not an erection it is SWOLLEN
I am thinking it might of got bend or pinched in the carseat ????? who really knows
& there is a little red dot in the center of the swelling.
The reason I am afraid that it could be an allergic reactions is because of "Angioedema"

I have had a similar experience & my son's gets swollen when he eats cheese chips (goldfish, cheese nips, cheetos) & pretzels. He is not allergic to cheese or yeast according to his tests.(just mildly) But too much of these culprits & he gets a very swollen penis. When he was a baby he was circumcised & had problems healing. We put Bactrobum on it as well as a zinc oxide/aquaphor/nystatin mixture the dr. prescribed. I hope this helps some. Good luck!!!
