I'm sorry if this ends up long and jumps back and forth between topic its just that I'm so mad. 2 of my 3 sons are highly allergic to peanut and tree nuts. I have a 12 yr old 7th grader and a 5 yr old kindergarten. My kindergartener is also alleric to eggs, milk, wheat, strawberries, plums, canalope, watermelon, peas, greenbeans. Both boys have asthma and eczema.
I informed the school head nurse at the end of last school year about my 5 yr olds allergies and that he will be in kindergarten next yr. I again talked to her during kindergarted round up.. now we're to this year, the nurse called the 17th of Aug. about his allergies told her this list of allergies and that his class room needs to be nut free. The 20th monday was the day we go visit the classroom, meet the teacher, drop of school supplies. I talked to the teacher about his allergies then went to the nurse office at her (nurses) request to go over more info give her supplie of meds and directions. 21st tuesday is actal 1st day of class it went fine but then Wed. 22, the second day of class . I walk into the classroon and there is jars of peanut and peanutbutter, I asked the teacher what they were doing with peanut today she stated the kids are going to make peanutbutter cookies when class starts and at the end of the day they will all sit in a circle and eat them. I told her Marcus could not be involved with this. He couldn't even be in the class room. She said, then I guess he will have to sit in the hallway or be sent to the principal office while they cooked them then again when they eat them. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Just thinking she didn't understand how dangerous this is. I explained that Marcus cannot come back into this classroom he can not touch anything that peanut or someone else has touched. Her comment: "I will be cooking with peanuts and eggs every week" to make a long story shorter I said, I guess you will have to mark Marcus absent because he's not going into that classroom or sit in the hall way or be sent to the principal office, those three choices are not a opption. I left with my son. The nurse called, the princple called, and by the end of the day Marcus had a new Kindergarten teacher starting thursday. They also said he wouldn't be marked absent becuse it was a health risk factor for him to be there. The new teacher is good He was both of my other boys kindergarten teacher, and he is willing to try to keep his class nut free. I have given the nurce and his teacher some info on nut allergies. gave the nurse a sample letter to be sent out to all the kids in both AM and PM kindergarten class to not bring nuts to school. the priciple approved it i did that last Friday and it now Wednesday and the letter has not gone out yet. i also talked to the nurse about a 504 plan but I haven't heard back on it yet. i did mail a letter to the superatendent about the incident that happened in the 1 kindergarted class and i actually I sent a copy of it to all the pricipals in the district informing of the incid4ent and that i didnt want that to happen again to any of my boys or any child with allergies and if they have any question to call me. well i haven't heard any responces I NEED HELP ANY ONE GOT ANY INFORMATION FOR ME?
