Group for advocacy in the schools

I am the mother of a 5 year old little boy who has a severe peanut allergy. While he was small, it was easy to protect him. Now that he is growing, he, as many early elementary schoolers, is not armed with the ability to protect and advocate for himself. Now that he has entered the public school system, my husband and I have quickly learned how gray of an area exists in the arena of peanut allergies and the schools. While science learns more and more about these allergies, their increasing prevalence, and future treatment options, we are left in the meantime to make sure that our children can feel as safe as possible while getting the education that they are entitled to receive. It is my hope that this information that I have compiled will help people to come together, find information, and help each other navigate through these tough issues with their experiences. It is not my intention for APAC to be place for harsh negativity or antagonistic language, which will not be tolerated. It's my hope that it represents forward thinking and fact gathering to make our communities more aware of the daily struggles and realities that children with peanut allergies face. You are your child's best advocate, and I hope that this page can assist you in your role.
