One of my favorite candy are called cowtails. They are long carmel things with a cream inside. Also, they have round ones where you can see the cream in the middle. I see them all over the place, in almost every store. Well, yesterday I decided to call and see if they are safe. Guess what... they are!!!
I talked to a lady named Cheryl who said that they have no peanut or nut ingredients and that they only make the carmel creams (different flavors)and a carmel apple lollipop and that they have no peanuts/nuts in the plant. She said too that there is only one plant that produces these. On the ingredients there is listed lecithin, I asked about this specifically and she said it is not a peanut/nut derived lecithin. She also said that she had asked their chemist a while back about the saftey of all their ingredients, that they were not cross-contaminated somehow and she was told that they are all safe. She said she gets this question a lot and that they are totally safe with no chance of cross-contamination. They do make a chocolate carmel cream and I asked about the cocoa they use in that and she said the chemist said it was not cross-contaminated in any way.
She was very nice and seemed like she really knew what she was talking about. As always though, I would like to hear from people who have actually eaten these or called and got same answers. You can go to website www.goetzecandy.com (this is pronounced as 'gets') And I was able to reach Cheryl through 1-800-638-1456. Can anyone else call and see if they get the same info, and I would love to hear from anyone who has already eaten these. Thanks!!

Just bumping this up since the Halloween candy question is around. I gave a cowtail to my dd today and she loved it! And she had no problems!!

Mmmmm...I'm glad you posted this, kcmom. I've always loved the caramel thingies with the white center, but always assumed they weren't safe. I do plan on calling. Years ago I used to walk down to the Candy Barrel to get my "fix" of those for the start of the weekend.
Thanks for posting this info and for giving us another safe candy to add to our list! I am glad that you also posted the contact info and I plan to contact them to confirm what they told you...thanks again and enjoy!
Thanks for posting this! My DH and I love the caramels!
Thank you for posting this! My dad(Grandpa, of course) always has some of these around, so I just happened to be checking a bag at our CVS. It looked okay, and I meant to check it out here. I forgot all about it so was glad to see it pop up here. I know I need to check for myself, and also so I can hopefully add more confirmation to this, but Grandpa will be very pleased to have a safe treat to give dd! His memory is a bit fuzzy these days, sadly, so he sometimes forgets the little details about brand stuff. Thus, if it is a product he already buys, this is very helpful for us to know it is safe!
I have never seen or heard of the tails! I am familiar with the "Bull's eyes". Becca
PS (I just zipped off an email to them asking if there are any tree nuts or peanuts in any of their facilities, from production through to packaging. I will post what I get)

kcmom: yes, I got the same info when speaking with Debbie at Goetze Candy today! She explained that they do not use any nut products in their facility and that they used to have a peanut butter candy and stopped producing it 5 years ago due to the increase in PA!
Again, thanks for posting along with their contact info!
I love cow tails . . .but I KNOW I saw peanutbutter cow tails less then 1 year ago.
It was pre-PA and I remember being THRILLED
Sorry - I'll see if I can find anything out - but I really wanted to mention that
Debbie
Ps - I visited the site and it doesn't look like they make them, anymore. I confirmed with my sister. She said she definitely had one in the last year. Maybe they were old?
I sent them an e-mail to confirm.
Gee I hope they're ok - I LOVE them
