My son was at a park today where one of the children was eating a peanut butter sandwich. Minutes later he collapsed on the stairs of the jungle gym. He would not respond verbally when I called him. His body was limp and he was breathing shallow. We immediately gave him benadryl and called the EMS. By the time the EMS got there, he was coming out of the episode. His BP and vitals were good and the Dr's weren't sure what happenned. Could this have been from inhalation of the Peanut Butter?

Sounds eerily similar to some of the symptoms that my son had from an inhalation reaction; however, his got progressively worse and lasted 4+ days.

Infomom:
It seems unlikely that an allergic reaction from peanut butter inhalation caused your son to collapse. An allergic reaction could cause one to pass out in two ways: 1. Hypotension (low blood pressure), or 2. Lack of oxygen to the brain from swollen, constricted airways.
An antihistamine, such as Benadryl, alone would have little effect on your son's condition if either of these were severe enough to cause your son's loss of consciousness. An injection of epinephrine would be necessary to help restore a normal BP and to open up the airways.
I would suggest following up with your child's pediatrician to make sure he does not have an undiagnosed medical condition.
Hope this helps.
