I'm new to the site and I'm curious about how you plan for possible emergencies when you travel to other countries, or remote places. I know Nassau, Bahamas is not exactly remote, but it's not on mainland USA where I know to call 911 in an emergency. I've already been in touch with resort and know what they'll be serving, they sound very accomodating, but I still don't know if I should trust the situaltion. There are two hospitals nearby...I'm still not sure. Am I being overprotective?

Have you checked with the American Embassy? They can provide you with the emergency number (similar to 911) and other helpful info.
Check with your health insurance to make certain that they will cover bills from outside the US. You may need to purchase health insurance for travelling.
I would pack plenty of safe non perishable foods just in case.
I hope other people can offer more help.

Yes, definitely check with your insurance carrier. We went to Mexico last year. Our insurance company gave us a phone number to call while there in case of any medical problems. They said they would be availble 24 hours a day. It was reassuring. Luckily the trip went well, no need for medical care.
