Dum Dum Chocolate Pops

I know that Dum Dum lolipops are safe, but I was wondering if the chocolate flavored pop is real chocolate or artificial. I always avoid giving that flavor to my daughter but don't know if I need to. I threw out the outside bag so I don't have that to reference.

This is an email I received from them in fall 2003. From this info, I would assume the lollipop is safe, since the only unsafe item is a chocolate candy that contains nuts, not a lollipop.

We make several items that are free of tree nuts and peanuts. They include Dum Dums, Super Dum Dums, Saf-T-Pops, Swirl Saf-T-Pops, Picture Pops, Ice Cream Dum Dums, Astro Pops, Lemonhead Lollipops, Atomic Fireball Lollipops, Candy Canes, Cane Classics, Circus Marshmallow Peanuts, and Marshmallow Treats. All of the ingredients and processing aids for these items are free of peanuts and tree nuts, (including the flavors). We do not have any tree nuts in our facility. We do however make a chocolate product that contains peanuts. This item is manufactured on a dedicated line. We have constructed a house around this line. Anyone that works in this area must wear special clothing, special hairnets, and foot covering. If they leave this area they must remove the special clothing, etc. All tools and utensils used in this area are marked and cannot be used in any other area of the factory. All scrap from this line must go to landfill. We take swabs outside of this area to make sure no peanut dust is escaping. All of our employees must attend an allergen awareness training session. If you have any other questions please let me know.
