We're reworking our peanut free table this year--a week into the school year and are throwing away old assumptions and asking all new questions. In our letter to parents (yes, just going out), we're specifying the kinds of things that can't go to the peanut free table. These are second graders, and although we had no problems last year in first grade, there is (understandably) an air of discomfort at having these kids self monitor whether they can go to the p-free table. Teachers don't have time to fully do this themselves.

In specifying what can't go, I added a sentence of what could and found that I was more liberal than I thought I'd be. I don't think DS would have a problem eating next to a chocolate chip cookie that he couldn't eat himself. The question is in the degree of the may contain. How much may it contain?

Has this come up? What are your comfort zones?
