Do you or did you feel egg allergic child baked eggs?

I am curious our old Pediatrician said it was fine but I've read otherwise. Both of my 2 youngest children are egg allergic and I've totally avoided eggs even in baked items. Am I wrong?

you're not wrong, but not entirely right either.
There are plenty of proteins to be allergic to in eggs. Some are broken down by cooking, others are not.
So it depends which protein the child is reacting to.
For us, he was always fine with baked goods. It was just the raw egg that he would be reacting to, like what you get in mayonnaise or meringue. But that does not mean all egg-allergic kids are the same!

My dd was allergic to eggs until last week. Our allergist told me to read all labels and not give her anything with egg, whether it be baked or otherwise, no cookies with egg, bread with egg, cake with egg, etc. He said with any allergen it is strict avoidance. He said even if she ate egg baked for example in cookies, and she did not have a reaction, he said it is still an exposure and would decrease her high chance of outgrowing it or postpone her outgrowing it by continually exposing her. Hope this helps.

We did and we do not anymore, simply stated. Details follow!
Prior to meeting the allergist, we did give dd eggs that were baked/cooked into things. She had no obvious reactions to them in that form(well, I have to think hard if her skin had any eczema still, and if it was even from that).
The allergist was a bit off the cuff, but advised avoiding then entirely, stating it was the more current advice to eliminate all of the potential trigger, to outgrow more quickly or with more certainty. But added, "in the old days" we used to say it was okay.
I am so on the edge of cooking with them again if our skin test in July is + again. It was so mild and slow to hive up and was barely there, IMO, after the full 15 mins. I am not convinced it was a true allergy, as he skin is so sensetive anyway. She can get hives from crying. becca

My 20 mo old DS is egg and peanut allergic. He's only had 2 reactions to egg and none to peanut, other than the skin prick test. He reacted to a couple bites of scrambled egg one day, but he had eaten other things too so we werent sure it was the egg. About a week later, he was given egg only and reacted with hives from head to toe after only a few bites. He has not been given any egg or peanut product that we're aware of since then, Aug 03. Well, not "intentionally and/or knowingly" that is. I inadvertantly gave him some french fries that would be "cross contaminated" a few weeks ago. I had used a batter mix that listed egg in the ingredient for fish (in a deep fryer), and later cooked french fries in the same oil. When I realized the batter mix had egg in it and I was cooking the fries in it, I baked some fries for the kids. They baked fries were still hot and the deep fried ones were cook and I grabbed a handful of them and gave them to DS...not realizing what I was doing. After he'd eaten them and I realized what I'd done, I watched him with the Benadyl and Epipen, but he was OK. I told the allergist about it and he said that egg protien changes when it's cooked, and that he might react to lesser cooked eggs and not eggs in baked. His CapRast was .87 to egg yellow, 4.79 to peanut and 9.89 to egg whites. His allergist told us he'd "probably" outgrow the egg allergy by 3-4 yoa, so that's what we're hoping for.

More explained... No way.
Egg rast was >100. We'll pass on ALL eggs.

Nope....but we have a family history of anaphylaxis so I'm VERY careful
DS is only 12 months old, so I'm hoping strict avoidance may help him to outgrow the allergy (if not its okay, but I figure I'll do all I can)

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll continue to obstain from ALL eggs in hopes that DD and DS will outgrow their allergy someday.
