My son is almost 6 y.o. and weighs about 43 lbs.? He was switched to adult epi this past summer. I questioned it, too, but his allergist insists it is better to have a bit more than not enough.

Jamie is 3 (will be 4 in April). She weighs 41 pounds & has Epi-pen Jr. We live in the U.S.
When Jamie had her anaphalactic reaction right before Halloween '03, we found out we had been given Epi-pens by mistake & had used one. The doctor said it didn't hurt her, just took a little longer to get out of her system.

DS is 5, weighs 42 lbs, and we live in the US. He's had an Epi Jr. since he was 18 months old. My understanding from our allergist is that he will continue to prescribe the Jr. until DS is close to 60 lbs, unless he actually has an anaphylactic reaction and one pen isn't enough to control it (we keep 3 - DS wears one in an e-belt, and 2 others go in his backpack or my purse, depending on whether or not he's at school).
