Do you ask people around you to refrain from eating peanut containing food?

We've been in situations where I'm not sure what to do...

For instance, we were at my son's baseball game tonight and I had my 2 yr old daughter with me who is PA,TNA and egg allergic. Well she is still at the stage where she'll eat any snack food in her path and has no idea that she has an allergy.

Well, the mom next to me in the field opened a bag of nutter butter cookies for her 3 year old daughter who was anxiously waiting for her snack and was getting impatient.

I was tempted to ask her if she would not open the bag because of my daughter's situation (which I've mentioned to her before...she must have forgot). I ended up watching my daughter like a hawk and sweating out the last half of the game. I wanted to watch my son play and it kind of ruined my enjoyment of the game.

What would you have done? How would you tactfully handle it given the fact most people don't understand how serious it is?
