Disney Buffets

Hi, all!
I have booked a trip to DisneyWorld and soon will need to make priority seating arrangements. I have read the threads, but still have a few questions. We'd like to go to a few buffets:
Chef Mickey's
1900 Park Fare
Cape May
Crystal Palace

Has anyone done this? How do you handle people putting utensils back in the wrong place and cross contaminating, etc.? What were your experiences?

Also, we are thinking of getting a second mortgage (:-) and taking the girls to the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. They serve PB&J and a cake, but the fabulous dining folks told me there would be no problem ensuring she has safe food. Has anyone done this? What alternate food was provided?

We just got back from Disney on 11/11. We stayed at the Beach Club and ate at the Cape May buffet. Were you asking about the dinner or breakfast? We had the dinner, but not breakfast. Dinner was great. The chef came out and walked ds and I through the line. He only pointed out the bread and one other dish that used either bread crumbs or sesame, both of which could have possibly been considered a may contain. I was fine w/ him eating the bread if he wanted after the chef explained where it came from & his concerns. He even could have eaten a couple of the desserts. DS just couldn't bring himself to try any desserts so the chef brought out vanilla ice cream for all.
I made reservations for 1 place every day and I have to say it was the best experience I've ever had across the board dealing w/ all the restaurants. Inlcuding the snack carts & counter service. We did the dining plan so we ate out a lot.
The only sit down breakfast we had was in Animal Kingdom. Again, great!
The only minor disappointment was Mickey's Backyard BBQ. A+ for entertainment. C- for food. The chef said he would bring DS's food from the kitchen instead of having him go through the line, but he never did. DS ate from the regular buffet w/out a problem.

We ate dinner at Chef Mickey's Dec 2005. It was noted on our reservation and the chef came out. DD choose to eat standard kid food (pizza/pasta). Chef talked about the safe options. Wait person checked on us frequently. Bring your camera and get the kids autograph books. We didn't do the tea party, but did have lunch in the castle (not buffet). Same thing, chef came out, talked about options. Have a great trip!
Regarding your concern about missplaced serving utensils. I didn't see this happen, if you do- you can tell a worker. If you notice 2 spatulas in a food selection and see that another food selection does not have a spatula- you don't have to serve yourself either food and can tell a food service worker. There were a lot of workers and it seemed like they kept an eye on everything (ie bringing out fresh food, cleaning buffet area etc).

In the last few years we have eaten at Park Fare for Breakfast and Lunch, Crystal Palace for lunch and dinner, and Chef Mickey's for dinner. All of our experiences have been wonderful. As mentioned above, the chef will come to your table and discuss the allergies and then walk the buffet with one of you to point out the things that can and can't be eaten by the allergic person (in our case DD's PA). On our last trip in September we ate lunch at Crystal Palace. After the chef told me she could not have the plain rolls since they were in the basket with the other breads, he went in the kitchen and brought her out two that he took straight from the package and heated for her. The buffet did have a big bowl of peanut butter, but it was only on one side at the very end (the buffet there is sort of a mirror image that comes together at the carving station), so the mac&cheese and pizza kid's section at the other end was as far away as possible. And,as someone mentioned above, there are attendants constantly wiping, cleaning and restocking the buffets.
In January 2005 we did the Perfectly Princess Tea Party and my daughter(who was 4 at the time) thoroughly enjoyed it. Kids aren't really there for the food, so keep that in mind. Instead of the regular plate with 3 kinds of tea sandwiches (ham and cheese, cheese, and PBJ) they just brought her out one with an extra cheese sandwich. This may have changed, but it wasn't a problem at all. The accompanying grown-up got a plate with fancy cheeses and other stuff I wasn't fond of, but the cake was good. Since my DD couldn't have the fancy cake, they brought her out some plain little spongy cakes with whipped cream on top.
I love Disney Dining. They are wonderful with peanut allergies. You can even ask and they will email you information on allergens and where they are and are not in the parks. Before our trip in September, I got this information and fould out that they now sell Divvies and GLP snacks at several location throughout the world so my little girl got to get treats like other kids do!

When we went 6 years ago we ate at Crystal Palace. The chef came to our table and walked us through the buffet.
A friend of mine was at Disney recently and said that the restaurants seemed very allergy aware and pretty much all asked if anyone had any food allergies.

We went to Disney in May and ate at the Crystal Palace (breakfast), Chef Mickey's (dinner), and Boma (breakfast and dinner buffets successfully. At each, the chef came to our table and walked us through the buffet and even made items just for DD. DD is allergic to peanut, tree nuts, eggs, cantaloupe and at the time we were avoiding all soy (we're also still avoiding fish and shellfish). All the chefs were wonderful and allergy aware. The chefs at Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's were particularly allergy aware and were cognizant of cross contamination issues.

this past august we were at disney. we had no problems eating at animal kingdom (the salmon was fantastic!!) and the kids also loved eating at germany in epcott. the chef came out and went over the buffett at other places and the lady at shades of green (army hotel on disney prop.) even located a dairy free ice cream place for us! i cant remember the name but it was on the board walk.
disney was a great experance for our whole family and i wil defently go back

First, let me say that before we went to Disney, I wasn't a big Disney fan. But I'm telling you...they catered to DD's PA and without any arguing...they just did it. I'm huge on Disney now and am planning our second vacation. Heard the cruise was also fantastic for PA.
Now, didn't get a chance to read all the posts but went to Crystal Palace for lunch and the Executive Chef came out to talk to us. He told us of everything she could have..actually...if I'm remembering correctly, there were only a few things he said to stay away from...which included a few desserts.
I'm jealous!!! Have fun!

We went in March. We ate at Chef Mickey's and the Crystal Palce and a couple of other places. The chefs are wonderful. They'll walk you around and tell you what you can and can't eat. They also let you know if they are unsure about cross contamination from an outside source. I'm allergic to nuts and my son is allergic to all seafood. It was our third trip, and they have always been great about our allergies.
