Being fairly new to the allergy world, could use some ideas on some peanut-safe foods for my 18 month old to eat. Any ideas on safe cold cereals or store-bought snacks would be great. Make mostly homemade snacks now, but would like to have some alternatives. Thanks.
Could use some safe snacks ideas.

Michelle, welcome!
If you go to the Schools section of the board, there is the Safe Snack and Lunch List that I posted and there are also a couple of other threads by other members asking for safe snack lists to provide to their children's schools. These might be helpful to you.
Also, what country are you in? It really helps everyone to know because then if you're in Canada, say, I could tell you because I'm Canadian, but if you're American, it's a whole different story, again 'cus I'm Canadian (if that made any sense - meaning what snacks may be safe in one country may or may not be safe in another).
Best wishes!

Hi,
I'm always looking for foods for my 21 mos old son. Not only is he allergic to peanut & soy, but he's a terrible, picky eater. He does like a lot of cereals. A few that he eats regularly are cheerios, kix, quaker oat squares & life. Most of the major cereal brands seem very good about listing allergens. I have also given him rice crispies & shredded mini wheats. If I want to give him cake, cupcakes or ice cream I've made it myself. I give him an organic toddler cookies that I get from a hf store. They're teddy bear shaped - sorry I can't remember the brand name. I've also made rice crispie treats for him using rice crispies and marshmallow fluff (here's a link to their website - they have the recipe there - very easy to do: http://www.marshmallowfluff.com/ )

Hi! Michelle,
I have a 22 month old son who will eat the box the food came in!! He is not very picky about what he eats - its me who is so careful. Austin is allergic to eggs and peanuts...also legumes- so we avoid those too. He loves dannon la creme yogurt, the danimal yogurt drink (4 little containers in a pack, with an animal picture). He eats kraft rip'em cheese sticks, canned fruit-mandarins and peaches in the single serve can by delmonte. he loves plain oreos, chocolate teddy grahams. I don't know if you get moonpies where you live, but those are nutfree and egg free too. (i didn;t know about them until I moved south...) He eats poptarts, kellogs fruit loop bars, cheerios, rice krispies, Jet puffed marshmallows....He loves Philly swirl ice pops. he will eat sliced apples, likes cream cheese and jelly on Ritz crackers (i use the walmart gv brand of cream cheese and smuckers jelly)
hope that helps!

Michele..when my ds was that age he loved the Gerber fruit snacks. They are great for when you are out and about or you could do the Betty Crocker fruit snacks. The gerber ones are softer though which might be better for his age. Ruffles potato chips are good to because they are not real hard either. Good luck!!
Thanks for all the great ideas. I heard plain oreos were okay, but am still afraid to use them. Are they on designated lines - I see they now make some with peanut butter.
Michelle,
Apparently the regular oreos are supposed to be safe although yes they do make a peanut butter oreo and also the mint oreo has peanut flour listed as an ingredient. I avoid them altogether. My son is 2 1/2 (peanut and tree nut allergic) and here is a breakdown of his snack and sweets list all of which he has eaten several times:
Betty Crocker fruit snacks
Frito-Lay Cheetos, Cheese Puffs
Lays, Pringles or Ruffles Potato Chips
Breyers Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Philly Swirl Popsicles/Sorbet Cups
Krispy Kreme Kruellers (in bag only)
Skittles
Just Born Jellybeans (found in dollar stores)
Mike and Ikes(any flavor)
Guittard chocolate chips (milk/semi-sweet)
Dannon Yogurt
SunMaid Golden Raisins and Cherries Mix
Cheerios
Lucky Charms
Gerber cereal bars (strawberry/banana)
Sixlets
Dum-Dums
Toaster Streudels
Teddy Grahams (all flavors including cheese and the sandwiches)
Deli Meat in sealed packages (not from counter)
Any cheese
Hard Boiled Egss
IM Healthy Soy butter pretzel snacks
Fruity Booty
I have been lucky in that my child will also eat any fruit or veggie that I give him. I especially like to give him the sugar snap peas already bagged at the grocery(easy).

Hi Jaime
You mentioned Breyers Vanilla Bean ice cream in your list of safe snacks. I had some Breyers all natural Vanilla in the freezer and when I checked it this week (after our discovery that my DS is PA this past weekend) I noticed it said may contain etc.
I'm in Canada. Is there a difference in the specific flavours?
Best Regards,
Kathy
I am in the U.S. and have Not seen a warning on Breyers vanilla ice-cream.
As far as toaster struedels, I think they contain egg because my dd is both pa/tna and egg allergic and I do not give those to her. Here is my list of what I do let her have, please remember to check these out for yourself also and to not rely totally on any info that people give you. (NO offense to anyone here, just being cautious.)
Teddy Grahms, chocolate, chocolate chip and dora the explorer cinnamon ones.
Cheerio's
Golden Grahams
Nabisco Honey Maid grahm crackers and sticks
Marshmallows
Lucky Charms
Jello-o
Cheese
Ritz Crackers
Vanilla/strawberry and chocolate wafer cookies
Lay's potato chips
Sun chips
Smartfood popcorn
Hope this helps a little.
Tamie

Apparently there must be a difference because there is no warning label on Breyers vanilla here in the U.S. I would certainly never feed my child a designated "may contain" item. In addition, my child has had a reaction to Ritz crackers. I do not feel they are safe.
Thanks,
Jaime
Hi Jaime
I went to check my Breyers (havn't thrown it out yet)
It is specifically the "Breyers natural vanilla" All Natural Light 50% less fat. Here it is in a black and white container.
Says:"may contain traces of peanuts and/or other nuts."
There must be a difference between countries. I guess that's something I'll have to be careful about too.
Hope this helps but probably just makes things more confusing.
Best Regards,
Kathy
