The following will be of interest to Canadians in the Southern Ontario...
Presidents Choice Decadent Chocolate Chip cookies have in the past been thought to be "safe", and were included on a list provided by my daughter's school (which has a ban on peanut/nut products) as okay to bring into the school. Last week, I noticed this product now carries a warning that trace amounts of peanut may be in the product.

I have checked with the manufacturers of Chapmans Ice Cream in Markdale, Ontario. They inform that their 2-litre ice creams are produced on a dedicated line, where peanut & nut products are not used at all.

President's Choice cookies in the US (at least in Chicago area) are also now labeled with "may contain" statement. Our son used to eat the chocolate chip ones, but now I don't buy them anymore.

Even though this icecream is made on a dedicated line that is peanut-free, I hope you don't let your child eat it do you? The peanut dust can be in the air.

I too let my son eat Chapmans [ and also Breyers ] ice cream. Each of us makes different decisions for different reasons. In Canada the above mentioned brands make nut ice creams on different days than non-nut and they dissassemble and power spray wash the lines each day. They also store nuts separately and add them in a way that is intended to minimize dust. My husband and I have decided that this is an acceptable risk for us. Take care.

I was told by Chapman's that their ice-cream, original, lite and checkerboard was made a nut free plant. So it is very safe to eat. My son has eaten it and so have many others here in Toronto and it is very safe. I would suggest that if anyone is in doubt, to call the manufacturer.
