ALLERGY ALERT -- PRESENCE OF UNDECLARED PEANUTS IN
FRUITS & PASSION PEACH AND ALMOND COMPOTE

OTTAWA, September 9, 1999 * The Canadian Food Inspection Agency
(CFIA) is warning consumers with an allergy to peanuts not to eat Fruits
& Passion brand Peach and Almond Compote, lot number GC179. The
product contains peanuts that are not declared on the label.

The peach and almond compote is sold in 7.5 fl. oz/220 ml. jars bearing
the UPC 7-7628897013-6 and lot number GC179. A small amount of this
product has been distributed to Fruits & Passion stores across Canada.

Consumption of peanuts can cause serious allergic reactions in
individuals with an allergy to peanut protein. There have been no
reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The distributor, Fruits & Passion of Montreal, Quebec, is ensuring that the
affected lot is recalled from the marketplace immediately. The Canadian
Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
Consumers can return these products to the point of purchase.
