We went to Bubba Gumps resturant this summer located at Navy Pier, Chicago. It is now a nationwide chain. I have been very careful to ask about pasta dishes because I read that Harry Carey's restaurant here in Chicago tosses their pasta in peanut oil after cooking. I asked out "wait person" about ingredients and explained that my son had a severe allergy to peanuts. She checked with the kitchen and returned stating that they did not toss their pasta in any oil after cooking. ( my son normally will only eat pasta when we go out to dinner). They use a "team" approach to serving customers and we never saw the same wait person twice. I ordered "Garlic Shrimp with Ginger". When it came it was smothered in peanuts!!! I of course complained to the wait person but she was different than the one that took my order. The one who took my order may have different than the one I asked about the pasta! It was like a revolving door of people! And they were all teen agers, many of them foreign. In reviewing the menu there was no mention of peanuts in ANY of the dishes. The restaurant was crowded and noisy and the way we were crammed in it was almost impossible to talk to anyone. I have been mad all summer. Now I'm going to start composing my letters. Just wanted to warn anyone visiting Chicago or anywhere there is a Bubba Gumps.
