Thanks for the lead - I'll pursue it. We're trying to improve the nutrition of our lunch program, as many schools are, and keep it as nut-safe as possible, too. Needs to be Kosher, too.
Does anybody know of any other frozen fruit products that are healthy, safe, kosher? Thanks!

Breyer's/Unilever's response, no surprises:
August 28, 2006
Dear Yonit,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
It is Good Humor-Breyers policy that when any of the eight most common allergens
(milk, eggs, fish, wheat, tree
nuts, peanuts, soybeans and crustaceans) occur in any of our product (including
Klondike and Popsicle brand
products), they will be listed on the ingredient label in plain language.
Most importantly, if any of our products contain any type of nut or nut
by-product, it will be listed on the
ingredient panel. We do not use the terms "All Natural" or "Artificial
Flavorings" to hide the existence of any
We also have special handling procedures for all allergenic ingredients used in
our manufacturing facilities. GHB
does not have dedicated production lines in our manufacturing facilities for
product containing allergens.
However, we do have a very strict allergen-handling policy. After manufacturing
a product, the machine is
disassembled and flushed with a hot sanitizing solution for several hours
followed by a hot water rinse. If a
product containing a known allergen has been produced, the equipment receives a
double process of the
sanitation and rinse process.
Thank you

following up: Just spoke to a Breyer's rep and the pure fruit frozen bars are on dedicated nut-free equipment, as are the Popsicle Brand (owned by Breyer's as we know) Scibblers and the Orange/Cherry/Grape Popsicles.
And, I also spoke to Trader Joes' corporate today; the all fruit forzen "Fruit Floes" - lime, strawberry, carribean flavors also on nut-free equipment, but they do process milk products on those lines.

This is incorrect, breyers does not have allergen free dedicated equipment of any sort. go to breyers.com for their description of their products as related to allergens.

The previous poster is correct - Breyers does NOT have dedicated lines. We just returned from a night in the hospital after my son had an anaphylactic reaction after eating a Popsicle brand popsicle. I spent an hour on the phone with them this morning. They told me they aare the same as Breyers and that neither of them have dedicated lines.

DeykisMom - that's horrible. Everyone assumes popsicles are safe, but I have heard of 2 reaction because of cross contamination. Try Philly Swirl brand - the popsicle, cups and poppers are made in a peanut free facility. But check the website and label. Also just learned that Luigi's real italian ice, minute maid frozen novelties and Whole fruit bars and sorbet are safe of peanuts. This is the e-mail I got from them.
LUIGI'S Real Italian Ice, MINUTE MAID Frozen Novelties and WHOLE FRUIT Fruit Bars and Sorbet are all made in a peanut free facility. Tree nuts are present in this facility, however, strict measures are taken to prevent cross-contamination.
