pI had a great phone conversation with Dawn at the bertuccis corporate office yesterday. She was extremely helpful with my specific allergy related questions and gave me the following info:/p
pPesto sauce is nutlessbr /
They make their own pizza dough in housebr /
The only items that contain nuts are 2 dessert items that are prepackaged and do not pose a risk for cross contaminating other foods./p
pSince I would never order dessert for my PA son I feel it is within my comfort level to dine at Bertuccis. I will let you all know how our dinner goes. I hope my son will be excited to go to a different restaurant and like their pizza too! /p

I am thrilled to report that we had a successful meal at Bertuccis!
My children were so happy to be at a new restaurant that is safe and they loved the plain pizza.
I never realized how "kid friendly" Bertuccis restaurants are! They give the kids crayons and menus to color along with some dough for them to play with. They like to pretend they are making pizza with the dough.
Hooray for Bertuccis!

Thanks, SF. We have a Bertucci's right down the road from us, but haven't gone there since our PA daughter was diagnosed this past January. Good to know there is another safe option for us out there.

Bertucci's is pretty much the only restaurant we go to with our PA son... The sad story behind their awareness is that there was a death at one of their locations outside Boston, a TN allergic woman ate pesto sauce with pine nuts (I believe she had asked and was told there were no nuts). The manager who tends to be there at the hours we go to our local Bertucci's knows of this tragedy and is always very understanding and helpful. Very sad that this is what it takes.

I ordered take-out from Bertucci's last night and spoke to the manager of the store. She told me the same thing...that their pesto is made without nuts, they only use olive oil, and the only thing on the menu with nuts is one or two desserts. The manager of this particular restaurant happens to have a PA son and she allows him to eat anything on the menu except for those desserts. My PA daughter enjoyed tasting the salad, pizza, rolls, and a pasta dish without incident. I am so happy to have another place to add to our very short list of restaurants.

Ate at Bertucci's Saturday night. When the bill came, it has ds's allergies printed next to the food he ordered. They must have typed it into the computer. I like that.

Hi I am PA and do eat at Burtucci's I love them. they are very allergy aware, due to the fact that they had a customer die in one of there restraunts from a allergy attack. He had eaten the ensalada and it had undeclared nuts in it and the staff did not understand that it was a life or death situation. Since this has happened Burtucci's has removed the nuts form all there locations and are very good about everything they have. They are a wonderfull restraunt for children and some of them even have a botchi ball court in them. Great Food too.

Hey All,
I am new to this board but I just wanted to let yall know that I am 20 and have a deadly allergy to peanuts. I ate at Bertucci's in Towson, Maryland about 3 months ago when my brother came to town to visit me. I had eaten there before with no problems, but this time we ordered a pizza with sausage and I ended up in the ER because my throat started to close in the middle of dinner. The restaurant said there was no peanuts or peanut oil used to prepare the pizza or bread roll that I had eaten. I guess it must have been cross contamination? Anyway, I just wanted to make you all aware of what happened to me.
I also had this similar experience at a Chili's when I ordered ribs.

Maybe it was something in the sausage.

I ate at Bertuccis twice this summer when I was on vacation in Washington DC and was told they do not use any peanut products in their kitchen. I ate pasta and pizza there with no problems, and it was very tasty too!!!

Bertucci's is one of the places we take our kids that we feel totally comfortable. The only things that have nuts are a few desserts which are prepackaged. Otherwise, they don't even use it in their pesto. Our kids usually get pepperoni pizza, mac and cheese and noodles with sauce. They also eat the fresh bread and the olive oil dip (my downfall!) in large quantities I might add and have never had problems.
