I found this pretty interesting. Today I was in a Baskin Robbins for the first time in years (just browsing, not eating - the jeans are getting a bit tight). I noticed that the flavors were labelled with the top allergens that particular flavor contained.

Now this makes no difference for Kevin whatsoever since he reacts to trace amounts, he'll never have B-R anyway. But for individuals who don't react to trace amounts (especially allergens other than peanuts/nuts), this is great info to have.

It's a step in the right direction, anyway.

That is a small step in the right direction...
I called BR today to inquire about dedicated lines. They have several ice cream suppliers that do not provide such information. They do 'cleaning' in between flavors. But they cannot guarantee that there is no cross contamination from one to the next. It didn't leave me with a comfortable feeling.
I just looked on their website and don't see any pre-packaged items (like the DQ starkiss). Does anyone know if they have a safe item like this?
Thanks,
Pamela

Hi Amy,
This is good news that they post this information.
However, since they use the same scoops for all flavours, I still can't eat their ice cream.

Driving Me Nutty: In your post you stated that you didn't see Baskin Robbins having "any pre-packaged items (like the DQ starkiss). Does anyone know if they have a safe item like this?"
I personally don't find DQ safe at all. Pre-packaged items or not. The staff would be in contact with peanuts/nuts and if they touched a pre-packaged item the residue would/could be on the package. DQ is not a "safe" place for us!!

I agree.. I never go to Dairy Queen.. too many nuts lying everywhere. If I want a quick ice cream dessert, I just order a sundae from McDoanld's. Right now in the Toronto area, they have a "2 sundaes for $2" special at McDonald's.

I just called our BR local store and they don't have any pre-packaged bars like the Starkiss. Corp is closed now but if anyone wants to call during the week it is 800-859-5339.
Good point about the contamination on the outside of the package of Starkiss, I'll just be sure to hold it with napkins and open it for my dd, then quickly throw it away. Based on other's responses, we would take it to go and not eat in the store.

Yes, unfortunately, I fail to see the point of labeling the allergens, when they share scoops w/ the PB Fudge Ripple!!!
If they would open a new container every time, that would be different. But that would be so unlikely. Wasteful.
