Whenever I fly, I tell them at check-in that I carry an epi-pen. I explain to them what it is for and it how it is used. I don't carry a drs letter. I have never had a problem carrying it without a lettter but I suppose there is always a first time!

Not had one confiscated yet, but have had a good old "body pat-down" going through security. I was stupid enough to have mine in the E-Belt holster, hanging from my waist. As I went through the "arch", the stroppy female standing there said "take your torch off and put it through the scanner". I said something like "it's not a torch, it's an emergency injection ..." and she said "why didn't you tell me?". I think my comment must have struck the wrong way, even when I showed her my MedicAlert bracelet, the letter from my Dr. and also the Prescription. She grunted and ordered her male companion to "check me over". He was fine about it, saying something like "she's having a bad day!" Since then, I've removed it and placed it in my bum-bag (fanny-pack) and put it through the scanner with no problems! Durr!

MY son goes to many concerts and they have tried to tell him he needs to bring it back to the car or they take it. Well after a minute of explaining himself he has always been able to take it in with him.
I think it is so sad that we have to be so tight with security but i totally understand. Sometimes it is best to call ahead if you think of it and talk to management. I normally do that when he is going by himself just to ease my mind.
Good luck claire

New2PA
We went to the Convention Center, The Coliseum and to Carowinds. The only placed that we were searched at all was the Coliseum. I was expecting to be searched at Carowinds and questioned about her food, but no one even gave us a second glance. My bag went through the metal detector with the epi-pen and did not set it off. They never asked to look in it.

OK, the reason I asked is b/c a good friend of mine is the site manager for the contracted security company that works at the convention center. I called him and told him what you said and suggested that he go over Epi-pens w/his staff. Your original post made it look like you'd been searched at the convention center, then you made reference to the coliseum and I wasnt sure which building you'd been searched at.
He said his staff would not have searched any bags, that it was probably the in-house contracted security what would have been hired by Bassmasters for the show. Anyway, that's why I was trying to determine where you were when your bag was searched, so I'd know whether or not I was barking up the wrong tree to my friend about the epi-pen issue.
Anyhoo, my friend got the email address and name/number of a contact person for the Charlotte Coliseum: George Hite, 704-357-4747, george.hite@charottecoliseum.com, if you'd like to call or email him about the experience.
Also, the only time I've ever been searched was when I took my PS son to the courthouse a few weeks ago. I carry the Epi-Pen in the box it comes in w/DS's name, etc on the prescription label. The deputies searched my purse and asked if I had anything sharp in there, to which I replied "An epi-pen". He asked what it was for and I explained, he looked at the box and put it back in my purse and handed my purse to me. I try to keep it in the original box b/c it has the label on it and what it's for.

At our airport, there is a security check at each gate. We were searched one time and they questioned the epi pen. We had a note from the Dr and it was in its origional box with RX label on it. they let us go but wanted us to be sure to notify the check in people at the gate.
I had already called ahead to request a peanut free flight but did mention to the atttendants at the gate about the epi pen as the security people had asked.
the gate attendants were fine with it and simply said. "If you have to use it be sure to notify the flight attendant so they can dispose of it properly"
UMMMM......If I have to use it I garuntee the flight attendant will know about it as will the pilots because THE PLANE WILL BE MAKING AN EMERGENCY LANDING!!!! LOL.
