I am room mom to my 3rd grade PA DS class. I have been a room mom for the past 4 years. It has been the school rule since kindergarten that I attend all field trips. The teacher is aware of this. I had made all the arrangements for a field trip for later next month. It was a little work because the teachers could not get the dates right. I had to call and change them a few times. I made arrangenments for 10 chaperones. (A few kids in the class a discipline challenged! very disrespectful and obnoxious) Also, I had to make arrangements for lunch in a local park.
Now the permission trip slip came home and there was no mention of lunch in park. She also tell the kids that there is only room for 1 chaperone. This teacher did not remember the I must attend rule or have the common courtesy to ask me because I went through all the trouble to make the plans. Most parents of the good kids said this was unacceptable and started complaining. They knew I had made arrangements for 10 to attend. Teacher has severe parental communication problems. She does not communicate at all. After having a discussion with the principal on Friday, my Ds came home to say that 5 chaperones were welcome and they are NOT eating at the park but back at the school instead. Now...
I also have another child going on a field trip that same day. I have never not gone with PA DS field trips before. The principal and I decided that if DS is ok with this, we will give him the responsiblity of carrying his own epipen and benedryl. It would be good for him to have this experience. The principal has told the teacher that he will carry it. I will also give another one to a chaperoning friend with epi experience just in case. We have agreed that we will not tell DS that she has one. Say a few prayers that this works out as I am a bit nervous about it.
