Another IEP meeting? If so, to get more of the accommodations in writing? (Sorry, I'm crunched for time, and didn't re-read the past posts.)
Let me preface this by saying, "I don't know your situation. I'm just asking for your 'gut' feeling here." Do you think the school is going to come around? I mean, from the posts a few weeks ago, I was under the impression, that the school isn't being too agreeable. Do you think they cancelled the meeting because they felt that it would be - in their opinion - a "waste" of everyone's time? Because you and the school are at such opposite ends of the spectrum, right now?
Do YOU feel that an agreement can be reached with the school? Has the meeting been rescheduled?
I'm just really curious. This just gives me the chills....this was our life. We have recently hired an attorney. We are still waiting to see what is going to happen. I just know how incredibly frustrating it is to deal with a school district that is not cooperating.
I'm sorry you are going through this. Good luck!

MommaBear ~
Thanks for directing me to this thread. I wish you well on this fight. I cannot believe it is still not resolved. I also can't believe you left anyone standing after the "over-protectiveness" comment!
Most people I deal with regarding PA leave me weary. Schools positively terrify me with their utter lack of...I don't know what....humanity?

Currently awaiting final draft of IEP/mainly OHI portion (produced from most recent IEP meeting) to return to us for review and possible signature. (The meeting was under 7 hours long, basically, we started from scratch with the medical plan).
IMPHO? The meeting went well.

IEP is for Special Ed. Good luck getting an IEP for a food allergy.
don't know if I ever clarified an outcome in this thread, but my cub's LTFA (peanuts/treenuts/lentils) and Asthma are now addressed as an Other Health Impairment and have such a designation in writing, under his IEP.
This wording is also included in his plan: "XXXXXXXX's placement requires the presence of a school R.N. at all times.

In partial preparation for next year. Change of schools. Transition and oh, yes, a PTO food thing (PTO provides Hot lunch at least once a month (85-90% participation, money three months in advance---are they trying to tell me the money has already been collected???, and from "fast food establishment" as well as "deserts" (bakeries??):
Dear Mx. XXXXXXXX,
We were out of town recently and I just received your email. I also received a copy of the incident report per mail. Thank you for the follow up. It is appreciated.
Were you able to meet with Mx XXXXXXXX?
You may pass my home number (number) and cell number (number) to the Hot Lunch and Treat Programs Chairperson as long as Mx. XXXXXXXX or administration remains actively involved in co-navigating this area in accordance with XXXXXXXX's OHI designation and associated managment plan in his IEP. Although I can, when pressed, demand enforcement of XXXXXXXX's plan, it is my preference it be enforced by those in a more appropriate position to do so. I believe anticipatory guideance is key to avoiding brute enforcement.
Currently, although some obvious minor changes of necessity (names associated with titles and buildings) have been noted will be effective, no other changes to his plan for his Peanut/Treenut/Lentil Allergy and Asthma are agreed upon.
As of our last IEP meeting, you impressed upon those present, including the (district) representatives (Mx.XXXXXXXX
and Mx. XXXXXXXX) the importance of retaining the language of the plan, regardless of changes of necessity such as names associated with titles and buildings. Thank you.
I am assumming before I speak with the PTO chairperson, Mx. XXXXXXXX will have already communicated the nature of the situation. I am assuming the purpose of my contact with this person is in order for both me and the chairperson to exchange information that will facillitate compliance with his OHI impairment designation and associated plan in his IEP or in preparation for additional IEP meetings (well in advance of the new school year) to address any navigational conflicts that may surface.
Currently, I have received no notice (written or otherwise) of an IEP meeting to readdress XXXXXXXX's plan associated with his OHI designation. If this is being considered, again, it needs to be done well in advance of the school year. Much to our dismay, my family found ourselves at numerous meetings far into the 2005 portion of the 2004-2005 school year, despite numerous repeated verbal and written attempts to address the need, and before the current plan to address XXXXXXXX's OHI designation was achieved. Although XXXXXXXX is scheduled to attend at (school name) 2005-2006 (providing the employ of a full time school nurse), the principles of managing a Life Threatening Food Allergy and Asthma in accordance with IDEA/ADA/Public Health Law are congruous with the language of his current plan.
As a side note, I am wondering if, as advance preparation, there will be any changes this school year, in anticipation of this (sent in a previous email):

"In the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, the U.S. Congress established a new requirement that all school districts with a federally-funded school meals program develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition and physical activity by the start of the 2006-2007 school year [Section 204]. In response to requests for guidance on developing such policies, the National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (NANA, www.nanacoalition.org) convened a work group of more than 50 health, physical activity, nutrition, and education professionals from a variety of national and state organizations to develop a set of model policies for local school districts."
