Frances, please consider your son on the list of Americans who would like to receive Smarties.
jawar, I am SO sorry about what is happening here. I have just brought up the thread again before even coming into this one where I'm trying to find DebO and Guin. I understand if people have to back out of an offer, for whatever reason, but I'd just like to know that they have, in fact, backed out instead of trying to find them on the board and off-the-board repeatedly.
Yes, and if my mind is still with me, there are special Valentine's Smarties - pink and red and "safe".
Okay, with the addition of Frances' son, we now have FIVE Americans who would like to receive some Smarties. I need FIVE Canadians, please!
Do you know, I have even tried this thread with friends I know that have no connection to PA whatsoever, except through me, trying to get some Canadians. That didn't help either.
FIVE CANADIANS PLEASE (That sounds like a bar order here!).
I will come in later and do a list of the actual names of people wanting the Smarties perhaps over the week-end. I had just wanted to come in quickly to see what was going on because I saw there were two replies - I was hoping I had at least one Canadian reply!
Best wishes!

Please, I still need four Canadians to pair with four Americans. It would be especially "nice" right now with the "safe" Valentine coloured Smarties coming out (or already out).
Any help would be greatly appreciated, at least to get the four Americans already here paired up.
Many thanks and best wishes!

Cindy - This is Diane. I am interested in receiving Smarties for Steven. I have already ordered from Vermont Nut Free for Valentine's Day but I am interested to know if Smarties will have spring colors for Easter. I am working on the Easter party for preschool and thought this would be great to put in all the kids' eggs. You have my e-mail. Thank you!

Hi Cindy - This is your American friend, Diane. I am interested in receiving Smarties for Steven. I have already ordered from Vermont Nut Free for Valentine's Day but I am interested to know if Smarties will have spring colors for Easter? I am assigned to the Easter party at preschool and thought these would be good for the plastic eggs this year. Thanks!

I am not sure if the answer about sixlets and Smarties has been answered, but here it goes. They are NOT the same thing. I do not know how safe sixlets are. They are not labeled by one of the BIG candy manufacturers and therefore I will not buy them for my son. The sixlets are small candy coated ball-like shapes in a tube of clear plastic. Smarties are like a large, flattened plain m&m with a thicker candy shell over the chocolate. When my Canadian friend started talking about Smarties, I thought she was talking about the small sugar candy circles in a roll. We used to call those Smarties 20 years ago. Hope this helps.

TaniaN., I know that you had responded to Frances, but I actually had FOUR Americans who had signed up to receive Smarties before Frances had. If you haven't already matched yourself up, on your own, the two of you, I would actually like to match you, TaniaN., with jawar.
jawar has been very badly disappointed by not one, but two Canadians who posted and then never replied.
At any rate, please let me contact you off-the-board and see if it is okay for me to pair TaniaN. up with jawar. I really do like to work down in the order of what American posts first and what Canadian posts first.
Also, yes, to whoever so kindly posted above, we do have it clarified that Canadian Smarties are different and "safe". That's why this thread continues!
So, until I have confirmation from TaniaN., I have the following Americans who would like Smarties:-
jawar
dalesmom
Jodi
J. Roberts
Frances
Diane (for Steven)
Hopefully, we get TaniaN. paired up tonight!
Many thanks and best wishes!

The above question about Sixlets - they are SAFE! My Smarties buddy, Amy2, kindly sent a package of Sixlets to Cayley at Christmas time. They are made by Hershey, which are known to be allergy aware. Plus, they are *delicious*. If any Americans can't find Smarties buddies, try to find Sixlets in your area - they're sweeter than Canadian Smarties, and it took Cayley over a month to get through the whole package, which is a yellow cardboard box with a pourable spout. Good luck!

Cayley's Mom, thank-you for posting this information. I know that Jesse's teacher, who is from Kentucky said that she misses her M & M's because Smarties aren't as sweet. So, would you consider the Sixlets comparable to M & M's but "safe"?
Also, DMB, at Easter time, our Smarties packaged for Easter become "unsafe" usually because they are put into a chocolate mold and you break it open and get the Smarties out. However, our regular Smarties, the ones being exchanged here, I think would be great for Easter.
We have Christmas coloured ones, red and green that are "safe" and also Valentine's ones, pink and red, that are "safe". And I do really believe that the regular coloured ones we have, that are being exchanged here would be GREAT for Easter. Here's hoping we can get you matched up by then!
Best wishes!

Okay, we have Merri-Kim who posted in another thread, Canadian, who is willing to send some Smarties.
Also, I have been trying to contact TaniaN. to match her up with the first person on the "waiting list" (if you will) and I have been unable to get in touch with her yet.
I recognize that everyone does not visit the board on a daily or even weekly basis.
However, because of the nature of this thread, I kinda feel it's important to check into it on a regular basis if you have posted especially that you are able to send Smarties.
At any rate, what I would like to do is "officially pair" Merri-Kim with jawar. Now, jawar has already had two disappointments with Canadians that I have been unable to find so hopefully this time it will work out.
I'm going to go and e-mail both parties off-the-board and then come back in and up-date the list of people who do want Smarties.
Many thanks and best wishes!

Okay, Merri-Kim, I have "officially paired" you with jawar who does have an e-mail address listed above if you would like to contact her re the arrangements for sending the Smarties. Also, if it would be okay, since I was unable to reach you off-the-board, could you also post in here that you did see this message and do know that you are officially paired? Many thanks.
Now, if this pairing works out, I have 5 Americans still who would like some Smarties:-
dalesmom
Jodi
J. Roberts
Frances
Diane (for Steven)
Also, I am looking for the following Canadians who did post in this thread that they were able to provide Smarties but I have been unable to reach them:-
DebO
Guin
TaniaN.
I would appreciate hearing from any or all of these people as I definitely do have Americans to pair you with.
So, here's hoping that this THIRD pair-up for jawar finally works out.
Many thanks and best wishes!

Merri-Kim, I had the same problem with jawar's e-mail address last night when I tried to post to let them know that they had been "officially paired" with you. I may have another e-mail address in my e-mail account address book. I'll check and see if I can get a message through that way for them to please check this thread.
And, of course, I've forgotten already if your e-mail is listed or not. My mind is getting more boggled by the moment.
Actually, tell you what, Merri-Kim, please e-mail me at cscook@upath.com and I'll e-mail back the e-mail address I have for jawar in my address book. Does that make sense?
Also, I've noticed sometimes that e-mails get returned and then if you try a few hours later everything is fine again. I don't know why these little glitches happen.
However, if you could please e-mail me, I'll give you the e-mail address I have and actually, hopefully, it isn't the same one that's listed here.
Many thanks and best wishes!

Merri-Kim, I did just check the e-mail address I have for jawar and it is only slightly different than the one listed. However, I'm not in a position to post it, understandably.
At any rate, if you could please contact me at my above-noted e-mail address, I could give you theirs.

jawar, it's okay, you're paired with Merri-Kim. I understand that people don't check the boards or even their own e-mails every day, but you have, in fact, been paired. I also have what I believe is your correct e-mail address in my address book in my e-mail account. I think it's a difference between net and com at the end of the address.

I just purchased six bags of smarties for someone! They are just sitting here saying -"Oh how we wish someone would eat us!"

Merri-Kim, thank-you SO much. Now, if I had six bags of Smarties sitting there just waiting, well, I know exactly where they'd be going, and I'm sorry jawar, I don't think all six bags would make it to your place! LOL!
Thanks so much. I am so pleased this one connection finally got worked out - Merri-Kim not on your part, but finally jawar won't be disappointed for a third time!

It has been brought to my attention that I should probably clarify the Smarties sending, especially if you are an American signing up to receive Smarties in this thread, or, I guess, even for a Canadian offering to send them.
Now, I was not the originator of this idea.
It started in another thread, I believe under Manufacturers, and it was a clear exchange between an American person who wanted Smarties and a Canadian person who was willing to send them. They then worked out, on the thread, how they would do this.
For me, I consider this Smarties sending working three ways, but this is only my thinking.
If you sign up and are matched up, it could be a "one-off" where the American receives some Smarties from a Canadian FREE and probably only once.
It could be that the Canadian is able to send them without having to worry about the cost of the Smarties and stamps, and the American receives them for free.
Or, it could be that you are paired up and then an arrangement is worked out between the American and Canadian on how the American is going to pay the Canadian for the Smarties and the postage.
Also, with any of the three situations I've outlined above, I know, because I have had people post in this thread, that relationships between the two families actually do develop. That's the part that I especially like. Not only is a child receiving Smarties but a relationship is potentially developing.
I guess finally what I want to say, is please don't assume, if you sign up for Smarties, that they are FREE.
I have my own personal feelings about this, but I won't post them. It just has been brought to my attention that there may be some confusion or misunderstanding and I don't want this thread, which I consider to have run quite successfully to be suddenly met with a hitch. I think you know what I mean.
Best wishes!

Here's another American wanting Smarties. The Vermont Nut Free are wonderful but we'd love to just have a package of candy. I just read Cheryl's post ahead of mine, and was going to just e-mail her, but it sounds like there's some others in line trying to get matched up ahead of me. Feel free to e-mail me for any coordination attempts. And I need an ingredient check for soy, soya, soy protein. Soy lecithin is safe and soybean oil is safe.
How are people working out the payment of these? This thread is tooo long to read over and find that info.
Thanks so much!!!!

Head Cook, if you go to just 4 posts above yours, one of mine, it explains how payment of the Smarties can work out, I think fairly well. It's really something you do with the person that you're paired with.
I'll definitely add you to the list, just when I thought I had finally shortened it some!

Trace's mom---I was looking over some of these earlier Smarties threads and you said you have relatives in Portland, Oregon. That's where I am! I would love to get Smarties for my PA son. I have found a candy company in WA that will send a case--but that seems like a lot. I don't really want that many. Do you have any family coming to visit you soon? Would you like to help us? Thanks for the consideration.

Hi,
What a great idea!!! I as a teacher that loves to cook with the kids at the day care center I direct am always looking for things to decorate cookies and cupcakes with that are safe. As a newly diagnosed PA, I am having great difficulty deciding my comfort zone. I have seen and eaten sixlets in the past but they are very difficult to find in my area, usually only in mom and pop stores and definetly not in my neighborhood.
I would love to buy a case of smarties if anyone wants to hook up with me to arrange the purchasing and shipping, I'm happy to reimburse all expenses. thanx, barbsch e-mail pigfan5@yahoo.com

barbsch, do you want to be added to the list of Americans waiting to be matched up with a Canadian or are you wanting to sort this out for yourself? Again, I'm just not clear and since I have been kinda co-ordinating this for four pages now, I feel rather odd. I don't know if I should just let people match themselves up, or keep doing what I've been doing - adding people to the list when they post and you would be the 6th person in line.
Anyway, could you please let me know so I know whether to add you to the list or if you're going to do this separately?
Frances, no problem, I'll keep you on the list and would greatly appreciate if you let me know if you get matched up on your own.
Best wishes!

Frances!!! I'm so sorry to not have responded to your post! We recently moved and I've not been checking the boards lately! Unfortunately (for this thread!) we moved back to the Portland area, so I won't be able to participate any longer. My son is also milk allergic, so I won't even need them for us! I hope you found someone else to help already! Again, I'm sorry for not responding sooner!

tania n., I'm really pleased that your match up worked out okay for both sides. I know you had been a bit concerned.
So, as far as I can tell, I have 6 Americans who would like Smarties please!
Best wishes!

Barbsch--I found a candy store in Washington that sells Smarties--but by the case. The case has 48 boxes for $37.99--not including shipping. I don't know how this compares to the Canadian price since I haven't yet been able to acquire any from Canada. Perhaps we could go in on a case? I don't mind spending the $40--but having so much candy seems extreme. I do know that my 11 year old would love them since they are the closest thing to MM's and he really misses the MM's. Let me know.
Trace's mom--you live in Portland? How old is your son.

Okay, aside from some different stuff that just seems to have started happening on page 4 of this thread, with people matching themselves up or buying cases with other people, etc., I'm just going to keep taking Americans who post, their names, and then wait for a Canadian to pair them up with.
Otherwise, I'd be too dazed and confused with all of the other stuff that is going on to try to continue to run the thread. Do you know what I mean? I can't remember, I have 6 Americans, but no, two of them are buying a case together, so I really only have 4 Americans, but then one's coming to Canada in the Spring, so that's really only 3.
No, if you sign up in this thread, you can work out whatever separate stuff you would like to with other Americans/Canadians that post, but I am still putting Americans, as they post "on the list" and pairing them with Canadians as they post.
So, I have 6 Americans who need Smarties. I think this is particularly important right now if we could get some people matched up because it's getting close to Easter (what, a month and a half away) and Smarties are great for Easter (except the special Easter ones that aren't "safe"). So, c'mon, I need 6 Canadians. And, perhaps if I had more response from Canadians, I wouldn't be having people wheeling and dealing all through my thread!
