My 6yr old likes a song by Simple Plan. The other night(on our computer, I have about a dozen videos saved) but he watch it over and over....singing along. I finally made him turn it off. Now I looked at my hubby and said, did you listen to the words of that song, that fits him, I wonder if that's how he feels?? Hubby thought I was reading into him liking the song a bit too much(trying to analyize again)....but maybe, just maybe, I'm not giving my son credit either. I just thought I'd share...if this is how my son sees his life, his allergy, that makes me sad. Anyways, I thought I'd see what you all thought...this song does hit close to home for me. SIMPLE PLAN LYRICS

Welcome To My Life

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
Do you ever wanna runaway?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
No one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
Never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life

I don't think you're crazy. I do think that if there is a catchy tune or melody to a certain song, then a kid will just listen & listen & listen....as long as you will let them. I know my kids do that. I think that the lyrics just happen to be what they are your son just memorized them because he liked the song(music). It might also give you the opportunity to talk with him & see how he is feeling.
I hope that I helped.

thanks...I was playing it again and he came over. I asked if he liked the song and if he knew what the guy was singing about. He said he yes and then got quite...I believe in commmunication with my kids, I'll talk about it more with him...make sure something isn't really bothering him. In the meantime...I think that song is MY new theme song! Thanks

I don't think you're crazy. A couple of years ago there was a song on some Disney CD DS had called "I'm Blue" about a blue boy who lived in a blue house. DS listened to it over and over. It did sound cool, but DS told me the words meant something to him, too.
I didn't like that but also appreciated it. I didn't like that at such a young age he was feeling angst and finding it in music. Gee--can't something wait until Jr. High? But it wasn't unexpected either.
