Allergy to peanuts AND peas...(and eggs!)

pDoes anyone out there also have an allergy to peas? My son Austin skin tested positive today for peas. His reaction was about 3+. Just like his peanut skin test. I was wondering what kind of prognosis he may have, since the doctor said to stay away from all legumes now....Just like any other parent of PA child, I pray that he outgrows it! But I was just curious to see who else had the pea allergy and how they have done with it...Thanks!br /

I have anaphylaxis to peanuts, tree nuts and sesame, and mild to moderate reactions (nothing I worry about in trace amounts, but I just avoid the foods) to peas and lentils. I'd been eating tinned green peas very regularly before the reaction (lump in throat) appeared, and CAP RAST testing for peas and lentils came up positive. I've tested negative to kidney beans, though, so I hope to integrate at least some legumes into my diet once I've done food challenges for them.

My son has only ever had frozen pea's and never canned pea's but he doesn't even eat pea's anymore(about 1 year now)so I don't push him.
I have heard that canned are more apt to cause a reaction than frozen for some reason, is this true?

My PA 4 yr old spit up (threw up!) baby food peas from a jar and I did not know why until I found out about his PA. (he had reflux for the first year and we had assumed this was why he spit up the peas)
I have not tested him specifically for peas but have always stayed away from them.
I plan to have him tested for additional foods int he near future.
He is a rather picky eater, and I would like to have him try some soups for nutritional purposes, but I am concerned about the peas etc in the veggie soups.

Allergic to peanuts, peas and coconut.
When I was first skin tested, I also was allergic to tomatoes, lettuce,all types of berries, black pepper and vanilla.
I took these out of my diet for 10 years and now can eat tomatoes, black pepper and vanilla. I stay away from berries since I have broke out in large hive welts all over. I skin tested again before I tried these.

My daughter also tested 3+ with peas and other legumes but my allergist never asked me to stay away from them. I would not have known of the allergies if not for the skin test. She also tested 3+ with sesame and corn both of which she had had (in fact just before the test) without event. With the high number of false positives with skin testing, I decided to only avoid things that she reacted to clinically. Otherwise it would prove too limiting a diet for her - it's hard enough trying to avoid peanuts. She was also allergic to eggs (tested 3+) and did show clinical signs of it - hives around the mouth area. I've given her cakes and other things with eggs in it and she hasn't showed the same reaction. Recently I actually tried her on whole egg (scrambled) and she didn't break out in hives so I'm hoping that it means that she's outgrown her egg allergy or at least her body has learnt to tolerate it.

Just a reminder that skin tests may not show up 100% of a 1yr old child's allergies. If you are just introducing solids, I would suggest treating each new food (and even some old ones) as a food *challenge*. Introduce them 1 at a time, at least 1 week apart. Try to avoid multi-ingredient foods until you have introduced each ingredient separately and successfully first. (This technique is time consuming but may save you a lot of grief later on). Here's a link you might find helpful. Also, not all children have this problem, but stay on the lookout for new allergies that seem to develop shortly after the food is introduced (i.e. in the first couple of weeks after you decide it's *safe*). A rare few kids tend to become allergic to everything given enough exposure. If you fit into this category, then you'll have to start looking into rotation diets. Again, it is my understanding that this type of allergy acquisition is the exception. Though I do know several people with kids who have this issue, self included. Thanks for the websites...and the info...I am going to check out the websites now. It seems that every 3rd Food or Gerber graduate food has some sort of egg in it...I have become a chef overnight! I made mac and cheese from a recipe on this website and it went over well that he is having it for lunch today....thanks again! -allison

My 3-yo pa son also always spit up baby food peas and I always wondered why until I found out about his pa. By the time we found out he was allergic to peanuts, he was already eating frozen and canned peas and other legumes with no problems and continues to enjoy them with no reactions.

We're in the same boat
peanuts, peas (and all legumes), and eggs.
He's also showing the very beginning of a slight allergy to soya.

My 9 year old daughter is allergic to all legumes. We knew she was allergic to peanuts at 18 months (first PB&J sandwich!) but it took us awhile to figure out the rest of the allergies. She had pretty bad asthma but once we realized that it was a result of other legumes, it pretty much went away. We avoid all beans, peas, and all soy. Soybean oil is ok. It is a challenge. I'd be happy to provide more info if you'd like. I feel that after 9 years I've become a master at living in a world free of legumes!
