I called about an egg free mayo which is supposed to have THE VERY BEST TASTE (can't be much worse than the ones we've tried)...I asked about where it was made and found out they also make some dressings w/ nuts but they do a "thorough allergen wash and sanitization"...I'm not sure how I feel about ordering this...my DH calls on some factories that use this type of wash and he says he is very comfortable w/it b/c of how tightly they are supervised/checked, etc. What are your opinions of the allergen washes?
And by the way, if anyone has safely used the product "Vegenaise" I'd love to hear from you.

I've never heard of that product, but we do use Kraft Miracle Whip and Kraft doesn't use dedicated lines. It's one of my "nervous but it's never caused a problem" items. As are all Kraft/Nabisco items.

Hi Melissa
Personally, unless a product is made on a dedicated line (not that it is easy to always find that out!) I consider it to be may contain and avoid it.
My son is extremely sensitive to egg so we avoid any sauces/dressings.
take care

We've been using Spectrum Naturals Eggless, Vegan, Light Canola Mayo with no problems. Haven't tried any others yet.

Melissa,
For a long time I didn't trust companies that used the *allergen wash*. I avoided Kraft for years.
The following link:
http://www.nuconnexions.com/Allergy/
explains about the wash.
Basically, they take the machine apart and thoroughly clean it. After putting it back together, the first run is not sold in stores (as an added precaution).
I have now added companies that use the *allergen wash* to my personal safe list.

I'm so proud of myself. I didn't have to ask Cindy or Erik to provide the link.

Hi Melissa, dd was anaphylactic to egg until 2 months ago. Now she has outgrown it. She is also allergic to milk and peanuts. We ate Veganaise for years, with no problems at all. It is the plain Veganaise, with the blue label. I actually still eat it, because I think it is probably lower in cholesterol than mayonaise.

Carefulmom,
I decided the Vegenaise is trustworthy enough to try and went to order it from the website and the shipping (which has to be next day or 2nd day air to VA) was going to be $24!!!! That's a hefty price for a $3 jar of mayo!!! I don't think it's sold around here...what store do you get it from? Maybe I can find something at least w/in driving distance and stock up!
Thanks!
Melissa

Hi, I get it from Whole Foods. They are a big chain in many states. What state are you in? I agree, $24 for shipping is ridiculous!

Melissa,
I've also seen it at Mrs. Green's market. I know they're a chain too. I tried it once, the kids didn't like it, but we were reaction free.
