I thought this was interesting and wondered if anyone else had encountered this. We were hiking the other day and I told my 4 year old that he is a nut. He was goofing off or something. Anyway, my 3 year old PA son piped up and said, "I'm fraid of that word". I asked if he meant "nut" and he repeated himself.

My son has periodically gone through times when he has also said that the word scares him, or that he doesn't like it when the word is used.

My son who is now 10, claims (and has since he was 4)that the word peanut makes him itchy. He also hates it being said and hearing it.

I, mom to PA/TNA child cannot stand the word or the sight -- it makes me wince. I think I am getting better about it, but the word hurts.

My 9 year old daughter doesn't like the word either. There has been a recent flyer posted at her school, a performance of some comedic sports team who act "nuts" and are called the "lugnuts".
She said she won't attend the show, as she has no interest in yelling "Go Nuts!" as a cheer.
