Most people think that Sonic uses peanut oil. This is not true. I have worked at several Sonic restaurants and each of them uses high stability long-life shortening and it comes in a 5 gallon container. This does NOT mean that your food cannot come in contact with peanuts that are stored in the store.

I have experienced several peanut reactions at Sonic from vanilla milkshakes and the most likely cause is cross-contamination. Sonic is the only "fast-food" location I have ever had this issue with and I have not been to one in years because of it.
