"Check Rhonda's site to see what key words and phrases the doctor can use in his letter that the school will need."
Can someone send me a link to the above? I can't seem to find anything about the doctor's letter.
Thanks!

tgab,
There are two threads in this School Board that will help you:
"Our Letter To Our Doctor Requesting Documentation for School" by Rhonda RS (I think it's only about 5 threads down from the top today), and
"Anyone have a DOCTOR'S letter for school" by AmyS
Rhonda's website is: www.allergysupport.org

Hey Lana, its good to hear from you! We have all the papers signed and turned in, just waiting for the process to roll along.
We see the new allergist on Friday. Im kind of nervous. If I dont like his attitude regarding P.A. then Im back to square one with time running out. It was nice of you to think of us though!
So when I get my letter do I just send it in to spec. ed. or bring it to the first meeting?
Well Ill let you know on Friday how it goes. Oh, and I saw your post on the virginity thread, and you ll have to fight me for Richard Gere! I swear he just keeps getting better looking!

Hey Momma2boys,
I would definately send the letter straight in (after you make a copy, lol). I would also send it to anyone else you have been dealing with (like principal, nurse, etc.)
I hope the allergist is positive! I just took Cam yesterday to a new peditrician (our ins. changed) for his K physical, AWESOME LADY! When I mentioned PA she was all over (she was training an intern from the college), she was so serious about the PA and she inititated everything about PA, I didn't go into a whole spill, anyway she went on to say later in the appt that what ever I needed for her to do with the school (she didn't even know at this point I was asking for accomadations) she would be glad to do, she said it's my job and whatever you need me to do just let me know, then...get this.. SHE said, I have had some moms that were able to get PF classes, but I can't say that you'll be able to its really tough to get. I then explained that I was already in the process of trying to get PF class and table and its been a fight. After she was done and before she left she told me to call her and let her know where I had gotten with the school!!! I was sooooo happy, I now have an allergist and a pedit. who totally get it!!!!! I wish you the same with yours.
Now tommorow I have a meeting with Cam's school, I'm not looking forward to it since I had to force the meeting. They want to wait until pre-planning when the teachers COME BACK FOR NEXT YEAR to even have a 504 meeting!!!! That is only days before school starts! The reason (so they say) is b/c they want the K teachers to be a part of the 504 team and creation of the plan! It's absolutely ludicrious.
I don't know what is going to happen tommorow, oops yes I do, I'm going to be sitting across the table from 6 people, 5 of whom I know are against it.
I'm a nervous wreck.
I'll let you know what happens tommorow!
Keep me posted about everything, especially Friday.

Lana, that is really great about your new ped. I wish we could get a new one, but both that we have are pretty equally bad. My ped has told me what a waste it is to have more than one epi pen because they are expensive and they just expire and have to be thrown out!
Now you know why I need a good allergist! I hope your meeting goes well. Maybe you'll be able to turn things around. I honestly think that people think we are just crazy moms with an agenda and dont remember its about an innocent little kid, and keeping him safe.
NOW, about Richard, Ill let you have him and Ill take Goran Visjnic (sp?) who plays Luka on ER. OMG that man is TOO hot. Do you watch it? Its worth it just for him!!!!
Well let me know how the meeting goes. Im crossing my fingers for you.

momma2boys, sorry I missed the middle of this thread and your issues. I had surgery and am still not caught up. Anyway...
I think you are on the right track and kudos for sticking with this even when you were getting frustrated. glad to see you were able to get so much info from people on the board.
I think you have the outline we used as a starting place for our meeting. I set it up as an outline with some questions/suggestions and issues. The copy you received includes more of the decisions but can get you on that type of track if you desire. I sent the outline of items I would like to review a few days before the meeting. It got everyone thinking and we could discuss things from there. They actually had a few ideas/suggestions that I had not considered (or read about!!) The outline format helped to get the discussion rolling without seeming like I was being demanding and I went in with an open mind that they might have some reasonable suggestions.
I'd like to clarify the teachers contract issue I mentioned earlier that someone picked up on. All of the teachers, janitors, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, support staff, etc.. will be trained on how to recognize anaphylaxis and the plan that is in place as well as those children that the school knows are potentially at risk. They will be trained (depending on their location & contact with ds) on what to do. We simply can not force a particular teacher to administer meds. I do not have a problem with this and would prefer a teacher be honest about not administering. Up until I had to deal with my ds allergy, I don't think I would have given a shot to someone (kids, husband or complete stranger). I prefer to look at it that all are trained to recognize and given the tools to act and we identify those individuals (nurses, teachers, etc..) that are willing to take on that responsibility. i do not believe for one moment that if ds were in a life or death situation, anyone with the available meds would not assist.
