Hi all,

Our meeting to update this year's 504 for next year was on Tuesday morning. I posted earlier about our crazy week. I have to post and say that despite a history of rough meetings, it was fantastic!

We've had a few meetings where there seemed to be some secret motives, where staff (esp nurse) acted very unprofessional, and where we would get stuck on inane accommodations that should have been a given. We eventually got a 504 we were happy with last year but it took 13 weeks total. I dreaded the meeting Tuesday that would look at any changes for next year. Every time I assumed it was easy, we'd end up talking forever, arguing, and sheduling another meeting.

But they wer egreat! No one acted anything but professionally. We were in agreement on most of the minute changes and they were impressed with the letter from our allergist. What I find so amusing is that this year's letter is from a new allergist but is almost word for word the same one from last year's allergist...but suddenly this one was "fantastic" and "makes it so self-explanatory about the allergy." Just cracked me up.

The BIG news is this.

Dueto the large number of diabetic kids (funny they don't "blame" Matthew here, but he'll benefit directly) in school, next year they are going to food free/healthy snacks only such as popcorn/fruit/veggies policy for ALL next year!

This will affect all birthday parties as well as holiday classroom celebrations. No more baked goods PERIOD!!!! Along with the popcorn/fruit/veggie only policy will be rule that any and all rewards given by teachers are non-food.

We never asked for this and were thrilled. The principal laughed at how unhappy some will be but literally said "they'll get over it.....they don't have a choice."

I've said it many times he was "on our side" so to speak and that he gets it, but he's been so quiet and never voices his opinion. I know he understood how happy we were to hear this...will make an amazing difference next year!

That's about it. I hope you all have nice relaxing weekends planned. Matthew's last day was yesterday and we have a few days with no plans. Swimming lessons start next week, but for now I'm enjoying a little quiet time this morning. We needed it!

good to hear too!!! Our school is thinking(the district actually) about a wellness policy, so no more junk food. That would help in most cases(but I could see peanut butter and apples becoming a problem quickly!!). anyways, you enjoy your summer now too....no more 504 headaches!!! HUGS
