I'm a stay-at-home mother of 2. As a child, I didn't suffer from food allergies of any kind, but my mother has been allergic to fish and shellfish since before I was born. We had to be careful about having fish in the house as a result.
Shortly after giving birth to our second child, I suddenly developed a slew of new allergies, all food related, in addition to the nasal allergies I had suffered from since birth. I developed asthma during my first pregnancy as well.
Here's a breakdown of our family history with food allergies:
Grandma - strawberries, fish, milk, peanuts, tree nuts
Mom - fish and shellfist
Myself - peanuts, tree nuts, oral allergy syndrome, egg protein sensitivity
My Oldest child - Peanuts, tree nuts, and egg protein sensitivity
My youngest child - peanuts, tree nuts and dairy
Every meal is a struggle. Every party is stressful. Playgrounds can sometimes even be deadly with a 3-year-old who still picks stuff up off the ground, including food items carelessly left behind by children playing on the equipment while snacking (and parents allowing it).
I chronicle my journey to health and wellness, along with the daily struggles of food allergies and having food allergic children on my blog: http://www.alwayssick.com
