My son has a severe peanut allergy. He is starting Kindergarten this year and his school is not peanut free. I have been searching online for a reliable "safe" peanut free snack list to give to his teacher to distribute to the other parents.

Sadly, there isn't such a thing.
With the recession? A lot of previously safe products aren't safe any more as processing plants are consolidated.

The best thing you can do is educate other parents in the classroom and make them your allies.

The safest thing you can do is provide an alternative snack that stays at school so that if there's any question ever? Your son's teacher can give him something from that. (We're currently big on pre-packaged rice krispies treats as they stay edible for a long time.)

Also? Give your child's teacher cell phone numbers and ask him/her to PLEASE call you before ever feeding him something that you didn't provide.

Hang in there.

Anything from Blue Diamond is

Anything from Blue Diamond is guaranteed safe from peanuts. I think Snikiddy is too. Blue Diamond only deals with Almonds. Do your homework and research under gluten free products and sometimes you may find that there are more peanut free things by doing that. There is a website. I forget now what it is, but you can punch in what all you have allergies to and it will find everything that is safe.

So sad to say, but to see someone say there isn't such a thing as guaranteed peanut free snacks is disheartening because it shows ignorance. I am allergic to so many foods, it isn't even funny and my latest one is wheat. So believe me when I say that you can find dedicated peanut free snacks from dedicated peanut free facilities. You just have to do your legwork and your homework and use the Internet a lot. And when in doubt, contact the companies.

I stay away from Blue Diamond

I stay away from Blue Diamond and always have. The label does not guarantee peanut safe. Last time I looked, it had the infamous warning, "may be processed in a plant that processes nut products." Why take the chance?

I haven't found a fail proof

I haven't found a fail proof peanut free snack list. At the beginning of each school year, my daughter and I sit down and make up a list of snacks that she currently eats without any problems. Throughout the year, we revise as needed since labeling changes and what was safe to eat this month might not be safe to eat the next month. You have to read every label, every time you purchase an item. It can become very time consuming, but nothing is too much in keeping your child safe.

Check this site for some

Check this site for some ideas of foods that have been found to be peanut free: http://www.peanutfreeplanet.com/ and as I indicated Blue Diamond deals only with Almonds so anything from their company is GUARANTEED peanut free. http://www.bluediamond.com/index.cfm?navid=3

And hopefully, they won't delete this just because I'm providing some helpful links to assist with finding products that are peanut free.

As someone with multiple food allergies though, I will recommend first and foremost to check labels all the same.

Enjoy Life foods are dedicated nut free.

I think Ener G is dedicated nut free, but don't know.

Snikiddy is dedicated nut free.

Do a Google search for dedicated peanut free foods and see what pulls up.

Snikiddy fries are peanut

Snikiddy fries are peanut free, but I was surprised to see on the bag of cheese puffs that I purchased from them that it had a warning that stated was made in the same facility as peanuts but they took every necessary precaution ..... Although the Snikiddy fries stated they were peanut free.

Beats me why that would be

Beats me why that would be because there is nothing peanut in any of the puffs and I am allergic to peanuts to the extent that I cannot be in the same room as someone eating anything containing peanuts without having an asthma and allergy attack and needing my inhaler and none of their products that I have had to date have bothered me. So if the child isn't that bad allergic, it's worth a try. Am checking with their company via Facebook to clarify this point.

HI, Peanutfreeplanet.com is

HI,

Peanutfreeplanet.com is great for getting Nut free snacks. I am Canadian living in WA State...in regards to my sons sever nut allergies I wish I was living in Canada...they have great policies and govt regulations in place in regards to Nuts in schools and labeling.

Alot of Peanutfreeplanet.com's food come from Canada. We live in Seattle and will always drive up and cross the border and Stock-up. Most companies label their products with a peanut with a line going thru it (No Peanuts symbol)...Ive seen a few companies in the US starting this. And I email companies directly...Raisins by Sun Maid grown/produced in their KINGSTON plant are all nut free.

K

I have recently learned that

I have recently learned that some Hostess products from certain plants are made in a nut free(except coconut) facility. Where I live in NY the codes are 68, 87, and 53 If you call the # on the package they can confirm or tell you the #'s for your area. I have found cupcakes(which come in handy for parties in school when everyone else has a cupcake)I have also found ring dings, donuts, suzy q's, and I think also twinkies. That is enough for me. It just makes her special snack as special as theirs. You may also be able to leave some kind of ice cream or popsicle in a refrigerator in the nurses office. I have done that for ice cream parties.

Are you aware that you can

Are you aware that you can have your child on a 504 Plan??? (schools have to make reasonable and safe accommodations for students with disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act).....*having food allergies and severe peanut allergy is considered having such disability*

Generally, peanut free lists

Generally, peanut free lists are for NON-allergic children to ensure that the allergic children do not suffer contact reactions. The allergic kids should have access to their own goody box for such occasions.

SnackSafely.com has a snack list that our school district uses that is peanut, tree nut, egg and sesame seed free with many options, some even organic. You can find it here: http://snacksafely.com/snack-guide-intro-2011-09/

The also have some good strategies for Halloween trick or treating: http://snacksafely.com/2011/10/4-halloween-strategies-for-food-allergic-kids/
