My new roommate has a peanut allergy and I frequently eat peanut butter. If I have peanut butter in my room (separate from hers) will this affect her?

Thank you for your

Thank you for your consideration in seeking out information to ensure the safety of your room mate.A few things for you to consider. I would discuss this with your room mate to a) understand the history of her reactions, has she had contact or airborne reactions? b) her comfort with you having PB in your room. You will need to make sure that no utensils that are used with the peanut butter go into jam or anything else. I would recommend a dedicated knife that is used only for your PB. You will also want to take care special care in washing plates or anything else including your hands that come in contact with the PB.

I would also like to recommend a few great PB substitutes. Sunbutter is made with sunflower seeds. It comes in smooth and chunky. We love it. In addition, there is soybutter and depending on your room mates allergy there are other nut butters for example almond. The fact that you are here seeking information shows your concern. I'm sure you and your room mate will come up with a safe solution that will work for the two of you.

Thanks so much for your

Thanks so much for your reply. I will try to locate some substitutes. I believe she is also allergic to soy, so maybe the sunflower or almond. Again, I appreciate your speedy reply.
