Preschooler rallies for food allergy awareness
At only 4 years old, Catherine Hedderman lives with life-threatening allergies to milk, egg, wheat and beef. She and her parents will be hosting a walk around Lincoln Park in Chicago to promote awareness of food allergies in children.
Leading up to the walk, which takes place on Sept. 29, Catherine and her family have been staging a booth at the park where they hand out allergen-free snacks and Freeze Pops to let people know about the upcoming walk and its charity sponsor, Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE).
The FARE Food Allergy Walk will feature the girl's team, Cruisin' for Catherine, as they make the three-mile walk around Lincoln Park Zoo.
“Our goal is to raise awareness of food allergies and showcase the importance of information and inclusion of those that live with food allergies,” Catherine’s mom, Courtney, said in a news report from The Patch.
