Will and Grace - Last Night\'s Show

Did anyone see the show Will and Grace last night? For those of you who didn't see it, Jack, a character who is gay, had cause to have a stripper sit on his lap and he enjoyed it. Karen, another character, was trying to convince Jack that his enjoyment was an allergic reaction "my husband, Stan's, head swells when he eats a peanut" she said. Am I being a stiff shirt here in not seeing the humor in it? Maybe it's because we're working SO HARD here to get people to take us seriously and not think we're overreacting and here someone makes light of it.

Heather,
I saw it and understand how if you are really worried about something it could seem offenseive. But that being said, the show is a comedy, and in all comedies, there is always a spoof/satire on serious subjects (death being a big one!) If anything, at least people will be reminded that there are people with serious peanut allergies.
This particular character is always saying negative things about her husband and maybe we are all just a bit oversensitive right now.
I bet right now there are a lot of people offended about last nights show, and not because of the peanut part, I was a bit perturbed about the renactment of the lap dance!! yuck! But usually I get a lot of laughs out of it. its hard to be reminded but maybe its a good thing too.

You're right, I'm being a little oversensitive today - party becuase I've been dealing with night terrors for the past few nights and I'm so sleep deprived and stressed, I feel like I can't even think straight.

I know night terrors all too well!! Does your child have environmental allergies as well?
We have found that when my daughter's breathing is at all compromised, by a cold, allergies, asthma, etc. her sleeping is awful and the night terrors are really bad!
As a toddler however I remember when she would just scream bloody murder for what seemed like hours and we couldn't even wake her up! Very scary.

No, he doesn't have anything like that. I called the pediatrician's office and the nurse said overexcitement can do it. We went shopping and out to dinner the other night with my family and my son got to bed late. I thought maybe that may have caused it? Otherwise, no changes at all. Oh, he's teething wicked, those back molars that are supposed to be the most painful. Drool everywhere! Last night I left a night light on and he did ok, but I'm still so overtired and glad it's Friday! Thanks for the empathy!

Hi Heather,

Yeah, I saw that episode too. The way I look at it is at least tv characters are talking about peanut allergies. I remember watching Caroline in the City reruns and there were several mentions of nut allergies throghout the series. And they were in regards to the popular "cool" character instead of the "nerdy" one television ususally attributes allergies to. You know, the steriotypical geeks with the glasses and inhalers. Gosh, I hate steriotypes so much!

I saw the episode too....and I figure...well any kind of publicity at least makes someone make a connection. If it is common enough to be put on a sitcom in humor!
Also...that show usually has a different kind of humor anyways....I think its pretty far from politically correct....from some of the alcoholic inferences, allergies, homosexuality. Supposedly it is all pre-approved....but sometimes....we have to laugh at ourselves....I have had some really humorous reactions!
