my 2yo ds was skin tested today because he has been having hives despite me being very strict on label reading, etc. so along with the pn, tn and shellfish we already knew he was allergic to, they say he is also allergic to egg, soybeans, grape, potato, rice, and tomato. one thing that is confusing is that he normally would eat the potato, rice, tomato, and eggs cooked in things (such as cakes, etc) on a regular basis. dh says thats why he has been having the hives, but he never had hive on a daily basis just a few times a month. dr wants us to avoid it all for 3 months. the nurse said we can try giving him potato at home, since fries and chips are his favorites. they prescribed zyrtec daily for him. i'm not sure what to do anymore. it is all kind of overwhelming. dr also says that except for the pn, that the rest are not very bad and we can eat them if we wash up, just don't feed it to my son. we have been strictly avoiding shellfish, but now should we cook it at home if we are very careful about exposing him to it? i just don't know anymore. dh feels better about it( the allergies) now, but i am just more confused.

batrice, the GREAT thing I have found about this website is that you can post about other food allergies in Off Topic and get responses to your questions re those allergies as well. There are a LOT of people here that are dealing with more than just PA (my son is solely PA, right now, touch wood), but I am sure if you posted a question about another food allergy in Off Topic there is someone here that will be able to help you. Also, there is POFAK - Parents of Food Allergic Kids. It's a Yahoo Group discussion board. I just went to it last week and there is a two week waiting list for membership. I don't even know how you get to the actual discussion board. I just did a search for POFAK and I was taken there (so I don't have the website address). But, I'm sure if you went to www.yahoo.com and then went to their Groups section you'd find it.

I did participate in POFAK three years ago but only for a short space of time. It is very different than being here at PA.com and I just like it here.

But you may want to give that a try.

Also, check out www.allergicchild.com and see if Nicole has any recommendations or discussion groups going (or links to any) on her website.

Hope this helps.

Personally, me, I'd just be going down the list of allergies that have just been confirmed for me by the allergist and posting a separate question re each one in Off Topic here. As I say, a LOT of people here are dealing with more than PA/TNA and have a LOT of knowledge to be shared in an environment where hopefully you already feel comfie.

Best wishes!

momjd, that was a really comprehensive post! WOW! Those links would be really *good* in the Links section of the board as well IMHO.

Best wishes!
