I went shopping at our new Wegman's yesterday and found "Wheatnuts" in the snack isle near the nuts jars and cans. They are advertised as 100% nut free. I bought some and tasted them at home. They are really good! Has anyone heard of these before?

Thank you for contacting us regarding our Wheat Nuts, item number H2833.
We would like to let you know that they do not contain any shea oil and are free of tree nuts. The facility that they are processed in is nut free. There are no ingredients that are derived from nuts.
The following is the list of ingredients that are in the wheat nuts:
Soybean Oil with TBHQ (an antioxidant), Wheat Germ, Milk Protein (Sodium Caseinate), Sugar, Salt, Natural and Artificial Flavor and Yellow 5, Red 40 and Blue 1 as Color.
If we may be of further assistance, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Lori

Yes, I've had them. They taste like you're eating nuts, but they are not. They are good and quite crunchy. I haven't given to my PA DD because I didn't want to confuse her.

I told my son about them but he didn't want to try them. He's extremely picky about food anyway but anything that has anything to do with nuts even if it's a substitute for nuts, he won't go near. For example, he didn't want to taste soy nut butter. But even if he doesn't eat it, it's a snack that can be available to others in the house that is safe.

Hello
Im interested in buying your wheat nuts for snacks and to use for crunch in recipes. My four year old son is allergic to peanuts, all tree nuts and sesame seeds. Is this product free of these allergens? Is there risk of cross contamination? Im confused because I see that you sell lots of other things with nuts in them??? Are they made in the same facility?
Thanks

Good morning!
Every product that we produce is a "nut flavored" product. We do not handle nor do any real nuts enter our facility. Since we do not give medical advice, we always suggest that you take the jar to your family physician and let them make that decision by looking at the ingredient itemization.
Have a great day!

Per the previous email, our Wheat Nuts are "nut flavored" only and made in a "nut free" facility. No nuts are handled nor brought into our facility. The flavors are purchased from a out side source that come in sealed pails or drums

the other email did not state this!!!

HOWEVER don't order them from the company without checking on this: I was told that the mail order wheat nuts are packed at Bowlby's. The ones at the store are not packed at Bowlby's.

The information you have heard is INCORRECT! The Bowlby company is a seperate company which produces their product in Wisconsin. AnaCon produces the Wheat Nuts in our facility in Kansas. We manufacture Wheat Nuts in a "nut free" facility nor are there nuts brought into the facility. Our products are shipped out the door every day for retailers and our facility supports the website that takes orders from consumers who can't find Wheat Nuts locally and I ship them directly from our facility to that consumer.
Per previous emails, I cannot answer for Bowlby's concerning your allergen questions--those need to be directed to them in which I had provided to you their email address.
We do produce "nut flavored" products to send to Bowlbys that will be included in some of their products. We do share the same website but we have seperate links for our products and ordering.

I guess their shipping policies have changed then-good for them! It was probably 3 yrs ago when I ordered the wheat nuts (yes, I ordered first and then asked. bad me. They had included a complimentary bag of nut mix which is why I had called when the order arrived) but now I can find them at the store. Even so I rarely buy them because they're fattening (I have a bad weight obsession) and the lo fat ones are not very good, imo.

Yeah, I noticed after I brought them home that they were pretty fattening. I guess I failed to read that part in the store since I was so excited about them being nut free! Oh well, nuts are fattening too so you just eat a few at a time (yeah right!).
