Hello! I'm glad to find this forum, and hopeful that it will provide helpful information in the future.

My 2 year old daughter was just diagnosed with a severe allergy to peanuts and walnuts. We discovered it last week when she licked a pretzel that had peanut butter filling, and her whole face got swollen with redness and hives.

I am totally overwhelmed by the severity of the allergy, and I hope to be able to sort through the available information with the help of the experienced parents out there! My grocery store trip today felt like entering a war zone. Even though she really hasn't had a problem with the foods I give her, I'm suddenly scared of them all!

Hope to get through this with as few tears, and as few allergic reactions as possible!

Welcome to the site! You'll find tons of answers and support here.

It is SO overwhelming. But know that you are not alone. My son is 7 and has peanut and tree nut allergies (walnut included). And let me tell you--initial diagnosis left me flat out scared and sad.

I can say now--there are times where I worry--but I feel like I'm in a much better place.

You are doing the first step by coming here. It will get easier in time. You just need to read and educate yourself and find your own comfort zone.

Read labels, carry your Epipen at ALL times and be prepared to use it if necessary. If you take precautions, hopefully you never will have to use it.

Any questions--feel free to ask. We're here to support you!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm very much in the overwhelmed state right now. I think the scariest part is that there is an element that you can control, so it feels imperative to turn our lives upside down to stop exposure. I've already learned some valuable information by perusing through the forums, and I'm sure I'll be more comfortable in a few weeks. At least once I get our kitchen 100% nut free!
