J & D Fine Foods Recalls "Fancy Candy Platter" Due to Undeclared Peanuts
Brooklyn, NY - March 18, 2003 -- J & D Fine Foods of Brooklyn New York, is recalling its "Fancy Candy Platter" sold in 28 oz. plastic trays, because they may contain undeclared peanuts (chocolate covered). People who have an allergy to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
This product was sold exclusively at Stop & Shop supermarkets in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York. The platter is a six compartment plastic tray that contains a combination of items that may include chocolate covered peanuts and raisins, chocolate covered and/or yogurt covered pretzels, non-pareils, juju fish, and super sour worms. A sticker label on the lid reads J&D Fine Foods Fancy Candy Platter. The UPC code is 7-32426-14003-8. There are no lot codes on the container.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after a store associate discovered a platter containing chocolate covered peanuts that were not declared on the label. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's packaging processes. Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to their local Stop & Shop for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact J & D Fine Foods at 1-866-533-6637.
