Unsafe Necco Candy hearts

yes i was so disappointed. the brachs one read safe. i believe once they told me if there is no warning they are safe but their company concerns me. there are large rolls of smarties by cece that are safe and i think wonka hearts?? the little boxes are cute and convenient though

I called the company today about their conversation hearts but didn't ask them about the "tart" ones specifically. The rep told me that the hearts are made in a shared facility with peanuts, but on dedicated equipment on a separate floor. The company is telling PA people to use the 1 oz boxes because they have the most segregated packaging process, but I didn't quite get the details. It would be great if anyone else could call the company and post what response they get, so we could compare notes :) This message is NOT meant to be an endorsement of the candy, since it all depends on comfort zone and also you might get a totally diff response by contacting the company again - I think we've all had that experience from time to time!

I HATE THAT. I MEAN NUTS ARE IN THE BUILDING. ITS A DIFFERENT FLOOR. TO ME THAT IS FINE. why cant they write that: in facility but on different floor.

Last week my DS's teacher asked if she could use the Necco Sweethearts in individual boxes and I called the company and was told they are safe for peanut allergy. Then today I was at Target and saw the individual boxes with the "Made in the same facility" warning. I just called again and was told again that these are safe for peanut allergy. They are made on dedicated lines. I just thought I'd share...

I called this AM and the woman I spoke with stated to me that the Boxed 1 oz. were the safest. The safest? She states because they are made and then packaged right on the same floor.
Where as the bagged are taken somewhere else in the factory and travel through the factory so there is more of a chance of cross contamination. NECCO has always been this way. I beleive that they were behind on their labeling. Their factory makes many nut/peanut products. In the same factory but different floors.
She could not give specific cross contamination info. They seem really behind the times after speaking with this older woman. Not educated at all (The woman who answered the phone) This would just mean to me what is in your comfort zone. I have eaten the rolled necco's for years without problem. I guess this year I will still try the small boxes. I wish that I had unlimited funds I would create a factory that made all we needed from meat to cosmetics to feel safe in our daily life's.

I wish they could jut explain, in a detailed way, what's up. I mean, if they are traveling through the floor in bags, how would they get cross contaminated? Are the bags closed? Are the other boxes folded or something on shared equip? The person I talked to seemed fairly knowledgable but I didn't follow up well on the details - thanks for checking it out and posting. I'm still learning how to talk to these people!
