My son is TN allergic. Do you guys know of any wholesome sandwich bread that is not "made in a facility with tree nuts?" It seems like they all are, unless they are pure white bread like wonder bread or some such.

Any recommendations for a heartier sandwich bread? For that matter, I'll even welcome recs for a not-so-hearty sandwich bread. What do you guys do, do you bake all your own bread?

I'm so new at this, and my son just had another reaction, this time to a bite of a grilled cheese sandwich that had hazelnuts crushed up in the bread. It looked like simple sandwich bread... I gave it to him myself, and I feel terrible about it. He's OK, but it affected his throat and vocal chords, so we had to go to the ER and the works...

Thanks for any advice.
Shannon
ds allergic to TN, age 4.

Does wonder make a whole wheat version? I would stick with the white if it was safe, you should know that baked goods(breads to cakes and cookies) are the most dangerous of cross contamination or nut ingredients. I don't even let my child eat baked goods unless they mention being nut and peanut free.
I can't help you with a brand as I am in Canada , but I hope someone else can.

Wonder does make a whole wheat version, although I don't know if it is nut free. They also make their traditional white bread (called "Kids Bread")in a healthier version.

mamakasper,
I'm also in Canada, but the bread that I use for my PN, TN and EA daughter is Dempsters. Only their white bread is made in a nut-free facility, hope that helps.

I use Pepperidge Farm bread for my son, he is PA and TNA. I have never called them, but I use a lot of Pepperidge Farm products and have never had a problem I know they label for sesame (ds is allergic to sesame). Give them a call and see if they are in your comfort zone. We have eaten their whole wheat bread, but ds mainly eats the cinnamon swirl bread. I've never seen any nut-containing breads made by them, I checked their website and they don't seem to have any.

We use Aunt Millies - whole grain white. No trace pn or tn. I believe the same is true with some of their other breads.

We use Natures Own (when I called safe for PA/TNA and sesame) but that was a couple of months ago so I guess you could call. I also use Pepperidge Farms and Wonder.
