We have a newly diagnosed PN allergy in our family by a RAST test. We have another that was DX by a scratch test and I don't know if I trust that one or not, she will be getting a RAST test done soon.

I am hoping there are others that live close by where we can support each other and give advice on places to eat and good finds on foods!

I am in Northern Virginia but am sorry to say I cannot help you. My daughter has to many food allergies for me to trust any food service business. Sorry. I have a terribly tight comfort zone. You know were you might meet some people who do at the FAAN food allergy walk. Unfortunately it looks like there DC area walk is going to be in Ellicot (? sp) City MD this year. But I still bet there will be a bunch of Northern Virginia people walking - I will be. I hope you get other people to reply because I know there are many more PA people on Northern Virginia.

I'm also in Northern VA. I'm dealing with PA/TNA with DS#1 and milk (avoiding eggs/nuts) with DS#2. We trust McDonald's and Wendy's for both. We trust Friday's, Domino's, Papa John's, Baja Fresh, Red Robin, and Great American Restaurants (Sweetwater, Artie's, Coastal Flats, etc.) for DS#1. Except for the pizza places, these restaurants are also probably OK for milk allergies but DS#2 is only 25 months and we can still easily convince him to eat food from home. I've also heard good things about Chili's, Outback, Damon's, and Chipotle but we've never been there with the kids. Truthfully, we don't eat out much. Even if we didn't have food allergies to deal with it's just such a hassle to eat out with young children. I hope this helps.

KeegansMom,
I live in Eastern Loudoun county. My DD is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. I hate to admit that we eat out or order in quite often. We too have had luck with the Great American Restaurant chain, McDonalds, Wendys, Dave's Famous, and Red Robin. We also eat at Ledo pizza, Clyde's, California Tortilla, Foster's Grille, a handful of local places, and get hot dogs at Costco.

I'm not sure what's available in Fauqiuer County but it's not too far from Loudoun and Western Fairfax.

We also get the hotdogs from Costco but he can't eat the bun. I think they have some corn meal on them? I don't recall but his mouth breaks out in a rash if he eats the bun. (he's allergic to corn too)

We eat at burger king more often than McDonald's as their fries aren't dipped in milk or wheat before fried.

I don't live in Northern VA, but I learned that a food allergy support group is just forming there! I'll email and ask permission to post info. about it here. If you want, let me know an email address where the organizer can be in touch with you (of course, it's OK if you don't want to post your email address on the board).

I got permission to post all of the info. about the FA group forming in Northern Virginia, so here it is.

Two women are in the process of founding Food Allergy Support Group of Northern
Virginia. Both of their daughters have several life-threatening food
allergies, and:

We've realized that a support group in our area has been sorely missing! Our groups mission is to inform and educate while building community awareness about food allergies, and help Northern Virginia families navigate the lifestyle challenges that food allergies present.

Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 26 at 7:30 at the Patrick
Henry Library in Vienna. Our first speaker will be Penny McConnell, Director of Food Services and Nutrition of Fairfax County Public Schools who will talk to us about Managing Food Allergies in School. After that, our plan is to meet the second Wednesday of September, November, January,
March and May. Our website (www.novafoodallergy.org) is still under construction until
next week.

For more information, email info@novafoodallergy.org. They will have a website running soon at www.novafoodallergy.org
