Just a Warning.
On a recent extended trip to visit a relative in Japan, we ran into major trouble with my
child's peanut allergy. Many cities in Japan
DO NOT have an EMS system or EMT's on their
ambulances. They carry no medical equipment
or medication. Only city hospitals are allowed to administer anti- anaphalaxsis medication and there is no Presciption version of Epipens available. Furthermore,
Labeling laws are lax. Any oil can be labeled
as plant oil and peanuts can be labeled
as soybean or soy products. Doctors' offices are also NOT allowed to carry epinepherin!!
available in Japan! This made our stay very dificult. Many Japanese do not distinguish
peanuts from other soybean type products.
Please be careful if going there. The best bet is to make sure that there is an international hospital easily available in your area.
