I know that it is buried in here somewhere but I thought that I would bring this up again. What sun screens and insect repellants are safe for PA children?
We use the sunscreen and bug guard from Avon. Never had a problem with it. I should probably check with them though. Will get back to you.
Great question. I'd like to know what people use, too.
My PA (only) daughter got seriously bad hives all over and facial swelling (around the eyes) last year from Banana Boat Baby Boat SPF 36 Hypoallergenic.
Hi, I too am in search of some sunscreen and bug spray for ds. Today, I came across the the avon product mentioned by the previous poster. Has anyone else used this on their "allergic" child? Any comments about the ingredients that I should be aware of? I appreciate everyone's feedback. THANKS!

Has anyone heard anything about Ombrelle? I've used it for years without a problem but to be safe I tried to call and keep getting a busy signal
I keep posting this and it doesn't come up so I am trying AGAIN.
I called the FAAN last week and they have no recommendation for bug spray because they haven't found any to be safe. This is the first time that I have called them and spoken to someone that was not totally pleasant. Maybe she was just in a bad mood but didn't want to discuss the issue at all.
Do NOT use Banana Boat. I spoke to them a few weeks ago and their products are NOT safe for peanut/nut allergic individuals.
The FAAN suggests Vanicream. I ordered the SPF 30 from Target and the company by phone and use it on my PA daughter with no problem (knock on wood). It does contain coconut oil so stay away if this is a problem.
I could not find access to e-mail Avon when I got on their website. I will contact my sil who sells this and she if she can find out, but again we have had no problems. I also think Coppertone is o.k...isn't it?
I also contacted Baby magic by banana boat and they told me they could not guarantee that some part of the peanut plant was in the sunscreen such as the leaves or stalk. We had trouble with copertone last year before we knew kids were pa. Hawaiian tropic states nut extracts on the back.
Baby blanket sunblock lotion for babies 50spf works great. I called the company and they asked the chemist directly. They assured me it is completely nut free. We have used it and it works great! We couldn't find ombrelle. Baby Blanket makes towlettes and scalp spray as well.Their website is www.babyblanketsuncare.com. We found it at walmart. Happy Spring!
I saw that Baby Blanket scalp spray in the store. I think I will buy some of that now that I know it is safe. As for the bug repellant and sun screen, I plan to use Bug Sun by Coppertone. I did contact them and raised the thread for you in the Manufacturers forum. With West Nile Virus around, I think it's going to be easier to put on a sun screen/bug reppelant combo.
CorinneM1: The topic was not buried but there are 50 topics relating to sunscreen/repellants. I have re-raised many.

Re raising this
There are alot of topics geared to this.
My son reacted very badly to Baby Blanket last year. This was after I was told it was safe.
He looked like he had really bad sunburn and his face was swollen. I took him to a dermatologist( dont ask, he is a really good dr)
Anyway, he said that it was an allergic reaction and that peanut allergy kids can react to aloe.
Ds was tested for photosentivity which was negative.
The rest of the summer I used water babies by coppertone, which I stopped using due to the fact that I heard it might not be safe. I did call all these companies. I will call again this year.
He does get a fine sandpaper type look to his skin though in the summer. UGh I hate putting anything on him.
I had a sample from vanicream. He didnt react to that. Maybe I will order that this year.

Last year we used Ocean Potion. DD did not have any reaction. We did find out the Baby Blanket, Hawaiian Tropics, Banana Boat we some sunscreens that were not safe for PA/TNA.
Toomanynuts did u call baby blanket? When I did they assured me it was safe. This was before the reaction, btw. Yeah, well my son did react from it. I am just curious if you got a different answer.
EAch year I use WaterBabies by Coppertone and have had no problems at all.
Last year, we used Vanicream on both PA children. Didn't use a bugspray, couldn't find one that was safe.
We use Ombrelle also.
Just have to say, we LOVE LOVE LOVE Ombrelle!
Ombrelle has been discontinued according to a thread somewhere here. We've been using Avon bug guard for a couple of years now but it really doesn't repel mosquitos all that well so we top it off with OFF.
FYI - Ombrelle has only been discontinued in the USA.
It will still be available in Canada.
I was thinking of getting avon's bug guard.Son plays football and the bugs are bad. SO you use this with no problem?
I've used Equate sunscreen for kids continuous spray SPF 50 for 4 years now with no problem son is pn/tn also use Johnson wax off Skintastastic I like it because it has 3 ingredients in it that's all and it works fine for my now 13 year old but I've been using it for years. I've also used copper ton with no problem for sunscreen. Banana boat was a big mistake I didn't read it good as soon as sprayed it on him he started yelling that it stung and there they where hives he jumped in the shower, thank goodness we always put the sunscreen on before we go to the beach that would have been a nightmare. Now he reads everything before eating it and putting anything on his body. If he doesn't understand it or can't read ingredient he doesn't eat and it's not going on his body he say I'm not going into another anaphylaxis or stinging on my body like that one time. Because I have told him all the different names that peanut & tree nuts could also be labeled as but he doesn't want to take the chance. I'm glad that he that way and he stays that way.
