My son is going on a Boy Scout camping trip this weekend. He needs to pack his own meals. All of the other boys are bringing those dehydrated meals. We looked into one company and they make meals that contain peanut products. We are worried about cross contamination with that one. Does anyone have any suggestions for foods that do not need refrigeration? Has anyone ever successfully used any ready to eat meals? He is going this Friday and we didn't just found out that he needs these kinds of meals.
I am quite nervous about this trip. My husband and I won't be there, although a good friend of ours will. He is very knowledgeable about the allergy and carries and epipen for his own son (bee allergy).
How about dehydrated soups that come in a paper cup. You just add hot water. The brand that I see around here is called Fantastic.
Also, you could buy dehydrated fruit snacks. I buy my son something called Stretch Island fruit leather snacks. It is 100% fruit, and looks something like a fruit roll up. I buy them in the produce department at our local Safeway grocery store. Their web site is

Just thought of one more...how about instant oatmeal packets. Quaker makes them in different flavors.

What about the single serve cans of tuna fish with individual packets of mayo (Like from a condiment bar) to go with crackers, jerky, tins of spagettios, etc? Does he have to carry the weight long distances or does he just have to provide it? I'll think some more on this subject. Good luck, Kristi
